A tremendous amount of thought went into the preparation stage for this Hsin outfit. First are the iconic plush animal ears; to make them look three-dimensional yet retain a realistic furry feel at the convention site, I embedded shaping wire inside and deliberately added a gradient black treatment at the tips. This ensures they look natural before the camera from any angle, while the red-and-gold patterns inside the auricle were hand-painted piece by piece, undergoing multiple positional adjustments to match the curve of the head. The wig was also a major undertaking; silver-white long wavy hair easily looks frizzy if not groomed properly, so before heading out, I used a curling iron to micro-adjust the hair ends lock by lock and sprayed a generous amount of styling spray. This was done to maintain that light, airy, and flowing feel even in crowded, complex convention environments, so that even when there was a breeze on site, the strands would sway more naturally.
In terms of makeup, the eye makeup is the core of the entire face. To align with the character's temperament, I selected light gray-gold circle lenses, using earthy tones for eyeshadow with red blending at the outer corners. Coupled with false eyelashes, this enlarged the eyes while exuding a mysterious atmosphere. The heart and flame temporary tattoos on the forehead and below the collarbone were also the finishing touch; special care had to be taken with the edges during application to avoid glare. Paired with this light-gold tube top and grayish-blue flowing sleeves, the overall color scheme features many hues yet doesn't look cluttered. The black bow and ruby pendant on the chest, along with the metallic-textured accessories at the waist—these hard props required extra caution during both crafting and wearing to ensure their captured texture looked high-end before the lens.
Coming to the Huanying Comic Con this time, the on-site lighting and crowds posed a test for photography. The material of this costume is relatively lightweight, especially the voluminous flowing sleeves, which easily get bumped or snagged while walking around the venue, so I tried to choose relatively open spaces with clean backgrounds for photos. During shooting, to make the fabric billow, the photographer guided me to perform turning and waving motions. The orange flame patterns on the skirt hem and sleeves looked exceptionally striking in motion, and paired with the venue's overhead spotlights, the reflective quality and textural layering fully emerged. When posing, I consciously utilized hand gestures to guide the gaze—such as gently touching the side of the ear or lifting a hand to showcase the drape of the flowing sleeves—bringing greater visual tension to the frame.
I also met several friends at the venue who share a love for this character; we exchanged experiences on prop-making and styling, sharing tips on how to keep garments neat in a convention environment, which was truly delightful. In truth, whenever cosplaying such a gorgeous character infused with fantasy elements, the hardest part is maintaining a composed demeanor. With so many accessories, metal pieces and tassels would collide when walking, requiring constant vigilance to avoid losing items or getting tangled. However, upon seeing the final photo results, all the hard work felt entirely worthwhile. The on-site lighting and shadows cast upon the silver hair and gold bodice truly created a feeling of illusions coming to life, with every single detail brilliantly showcased within the lens.
