[Hsin cosplay] Phantom of the Fox Demon Under Red Maples and the Full Moon

The final shots from this Hsin studio shoot are finally ready to share. While shooting at Taotao Photography Studio, we constantly adjusted the positions of the full-moon lamp, red maple branches, and floor smoke, striving to bring out that ethereal, enchanting Eastern aesthetic. This outfit of interwoven red, white, and black heavily tests lighting and shadow textures; thankfully, the on-set lighting was luminous enough to save plenty of post-processing effort.

To authentically capture the Hsin design from Wuthering Waves, extensive effort went into the makeup and styling—from the silvery sheen of the wig to the black gradient tips of the fox ears, down to that subtle crimson tint at the outer corners of the eyes, which took several test trials. The giant tail provided a commanding aura, yet it severely tested my physical stamina, leaving me catching my breath on the side between takes. The dress features a high slit paired with black stockings, making wardrobe malfunctions a constant concern while walking, so every movement had to be carefully controlled. To convey sensuality without crossing into gaudiness, the photographer and I deliberated on poses repeatedly.

I especially love the first seated pose; it not only captures facial expressions with exquisite detail, but also uses blurred foreground red maples to accentuate the curves of the waist and legs. The subtle sheen on the black stockings caught the light just right, evoking cold glamour alongside the red-and-black folding fan.

The second full-body shot standing before the shoji screen utilized backlighting that penetrated the voluminous red sleeves, making the edges glow as if ablaze with raw presence. The third shot, kneeling on one knee looking straight into the lens, placed the full moon right at head level, achieving striking symmetrical beauty. A slight low-angle shot highlighted bodily proportions while allowing hand movements to feel fluid. Special credit goes to the wooden architecture of Taotao Photography Studio, which complemented the attire flawlessly.

When capturing a character with rich narrative depth, the eyes are paramount. To convey that disdainful yet languid gaze, I adjusted my expression second by second. The red-and-black color palette looked stunning against backlighting, brimming with texture. Even though hauling the giant tail was exhausting, seeing how seamlessly the full moon, red maples, Japanese atmosphere, and black stockings coalesced made every bit of effort worthwhile.

Although anime cosplay photoshoots are demanding physical work, interpreting a character in this way remains a truly special experience. Being part of the ACG Vision Project with this set is an absolute honor. Post-processing avoided flashy special effects, focusing mainly on calibrating the ratio of cool and warm tones to make the reds pop brilliantly.

The entire journey was a bittersweet labor of love, and I hope everyone can appreciate the fine details embedded in these photos.
