Bringing Hsin to life this time involved extensive dedication to hair, makeup, and subtle styling nuances. To achieve that fluffy yet spirited presence, I spent considerable time brushing through the wig and beast ears beforehand. I deliberately selected silver-white fibers for the wig to avoid a flat, stark white. During shooting, I carefully angled the fox ears along the contour of my cranium, accessorized with a golden hairpiece and red tassels that swayed gently with every stride, adding vivid vitality. The gaffer on set was phenomenal, using rim backlighting to illuminate the fine fuzz along the hair and ear edges into a translucent glow with soft, radiant halos.
The eye makeup was the defining focal point of the face. To match the character's lore, crimson-toned eyeshadow was blended across a wide perimeter, while the fox markings at the corners of my eyes were meticulously hand-painted stroke by stroke with a fine brush against reference art, complemented by reddish-pink contact lenses. The foundation was kept light and translucent, with blush swept on for a soft, flushed finish so the makeup wouldn't appear overly heavy under intense warm studio strobes. A glossy lip lacquer completed the lips. The wardrobe carries elaborate layering: a black form-fitting bodice paired with a white satin draped skirt, flanked by heavy red bell sleeves that billowed gracefully while walking. However, posing demanded vigilance: the metallic gold ornaments and red satin sashes easily slipped out of place with slight movements, requiring constant adjustments between takes to ensure flawless alignment before the lens.
Handling the smoking pipe was a pose we rehearsed repeatedly during light tests. To project a nonchalant, languid sensuality, wrist tension and finger grip were essential—it couldn't look staged or rigid. For the reclining shot, to give my gaze an electric, smoldering pull directly into the camera, I had the photographer angle slightly upward. Top light leaked across from the side, falling precisely onto the jawline and collarbone to carve out organic shadow transitions and sculpted facial depth. The looking-back shot aimed to highlight the back silhouette: pulling my shoulders in subtly with hands softly clasped, letting the skirt drape organically across the faux-fur rug to capture a drowsy, post-slumber ease.
The set was adorned with carved Chinese wooden furniture, hanging calligraphy scrolls, golden botanical props, and a luminous circular moon lamp in the background, weaving an enchanting oriental fantasy mood. The studio was rather warm and stuffy—especially wrapped in this layered ensemble with a fur collar—yet the moment the camera rolled, I locked into character immediately. Throughout the shoot, I explored nuanced micro-expressions to channel the big fox's sly, mesmerizing charm. This was not only an endurance test of posture, but a masterclass in camera presence. Behind every shutter click lay constant verification of light, makeup, and gesture, and thankfully, the finished set captured the intended atmosphere to perfection.
