When shooting this Yanfei photoset, her line was always on my mind: "The law is both a constraint and a tool." This line actually applies to the shooting site as well; the regularity of the scene arrangement is a constraint, while utilizing light, shadow, and angles are the tools in our hands.
I asked Teacher Aye to shoot this Cosplay photoshoot back in August, and today I finally found some time to sort out the saved pictures and post them. Speaking of the Genshin Impact character Yanfei, her red and white color-matched costume actually has a very strong visual impact. This time, to recreate her nimble feel, I put a lot of thought into the makeup and hair for this Yanfei cosplay. The pink wig was trimmed and styled to create that flowing, layered texture, paired with her iconic white beast horns headpiece and small red hat, instantly giving the look character recognition. For the outfit, the red waist-baring top matches with wide, detached white oversleeves, and the black patterns and pom-pom decorations on the oversleeves all required exquisite craftsmanship. The golden vortex and swirling cloud patterns on the short skirt, combined with the matching tall boots, make the overall styling both lively and filled with her professional confidence as a legal advisor.
On the day of the shoot, Teacher Aye meticulously set up a beautifully textured indoor Japanese-style photography scene. The texture of the tatami mats, the traditional calligraphy scrolls hanging on the wall, the scattered cherry blossom branches, and the warm-toned wooden floor lamp filled the cozy atmosphere of the entire scene to the max. I especially love those photos featuring red diamond-shaped glowing special effects and red light halos on the ground. The inclusion of these special effect elements beautifully enhanced the character's original magical feel and sense of power visually.
Throughout the entire shooting process of this photoset, we mainly wanted to capture Yanfei's confident yet slightly playful personality traits. For example, my interaction with the flower branches during a mid-shot look-back, as well as holding up my hand to make a playful grasping motion, all attempted to transmit the character's professional yet cute daily-life aura. The post-processing teacher, Xiaotu Keke, also handled the special effects and hair filling very delicately, keeping the color tone of the entire photoset consistently bright and translucent.
Actually, over the past few years of being involved with cosplay, I increasingly feel it is not as simple as just putting on clothes and taking a few photos. It's more like a transition between dimensions, requiring makeup, hair, body language, and lens light and shadow to restore the soul of a virtual 2D character. The moment I saw the final finished photos, the sense of achievement was hard to describe in words, and I am incredibly grateful for the dedication of the entire creative team this time. Teacher Aye's beautiful lighting and guidance, along with Teacher Xiaotu Keke's meticulous post-processing, brought about this satisfying photoset.
To me, preserving these high-quality images is the best way to honor my passion for role-playing. This photoset draws a successful conclusion to my work in August. Looking at these photos, the memories of the shoot that day become exceptionally vivid again.
