To recreate Yelan's iconic blue-and-black gradient short hair, I specifically commissioned a custom gradient dye job for the wig instead of simple spray painting. The length and curvature of the bangs also had to be adjusted just right—neither blocking the eyes nor losing that casual yet sharp charm. For makeup, green contact lenses were the soul, and the translucent glow at the bottom of the eyes had to be luminous. Lengthened, upward-winged eyeliner paired with soft orange-brown eyeshadow nicely neutralized the coldness of the wig, giving my gaze a sense of pressure blended with effortless confidence. The lipstick shade chosen was a matte rose bean-paste color that echoed the black neck bow, keeping the overall facial color balance very stable.
The costume took the most of my energy. This blue-and-white halter neck dress features subtle gradient details and argyle patterns across many areas. The neckline on the chest is a stitching of dark blue and black velvet, while the shoulder strap design flatters collarbone lines. The plush shawl on the arms was custom-made with generous fur volume, casting a fluffy, warm sheen under bar lighting that softened the sharp edge of the short dress and black gloves. The texture of the black fingerless gloves was crucial—they needed to allow nimble handling of props while pairing harmoniously with the silver accessories on the wrists. Of course, with this full set equipped, real-life warmth retention was essentially zero, but enduring it under the air conditioner for the sake of great photos is a basic virtue of photography.
The pairing of shoes and socks was also a heavy-hitting highlight of this look. Black stockings with a natural sheer shimmer, paired with patent leather black high heels, visually elongated calves effectively, making legs appear sleeker and longer. I practiced seated and standing poses repeatedly before the mirror beforehand—such as sitting at the edge of the sofa with legs gently crossed, or bending a knee while sitting on the bar counter as shown in the photos. These subtle movements allowed the overall aura to unfold completely, materializing the character's composure and elegance.
In terms of scene selection, we specifically picked a bar environment with retro leather sofas. The wide array of liquor bottle labels in the cabinet and the pool table added a strong sense of immersion to the frame, as if Yelan had truly just completed a covert mission and stopped here for a drink. Holding a wine glass with a cool, nonchalant gaze, effortless relaxation flowed naturally without needing overly dramatic poses. The photographer captured moments wonderfully during the shoot, with the lighting ambiance just right.
