The convention photos of this Hydro element style outfit at the anime convention have finally been organized. Today I mainly want to share my photography insights from these convention photos and the details of this costume.

From the perspective of overall styling, to embody the character's light and nimble traits, I made some choices regarding costume materials. The top features a semi-transparent white fabric paired with a light blue lining. The heavy gold decorations and sapphires at the collar are not only highly character-accurate but also carry substantial weight. The metal horn structure of the headpiece is quite complex; combined with the waist-length red wig and white semi-sheer veil, the upper body feels quite weighty, but it also ensures that the veil naturally flutters in the wind while walking around the convention, providing a wonderful sense of airy flow in the final photos.

For the lower body, I chose a blue-and-white gradient water-ripple skirt, with very delicate patterns and textures. The striking large blue bow at the waist paired with fringes not only raises the waistline but also echoes the blue elements of the upper body perfectly. As for the footwear, I specifically paired it with champagne gold lace-up Roman sandals; the crisscross straps extend to the calves, visually shaping and elongating the leg lines to make the overall leg proportions look extremely slender.

To capture the feeling of the character lightly dancing by the water as in her story, we attempted several different poses and compositions inside the convention venue. For the cover photo, I selected Photo 2, capturing a mid-air jump moment, because this photo shows the best body extension—the skirt naturally flutters with the jump, giving maximum dynamic motion. At the same time, the leg lines are displayed flawlessly, and combined with the overhead lights from the venue ceiling, the angle formed in front of the lens was absolute perfection.

Of course, besides pose direction on site at the convention, creating ambiance in post-processing is also vital. If you look closely at these photos, you'll notice I specifically added blue light spots and snowflake-like effects in editing to simulate the gathering of Hydro elements or spellcasting light effects. This not only enhances the dreamlike quality of the image but also allows the main subject to stand out against the cluttered convention background. The lighting and environment on the shooting day were actually quite complex, with reflective marble flooring; while it caused messy reflections, it also enabled us to catch unexpected highlights, making the whole image appear remarkably translucent.

Honestly, every time I do a highly accurate cosplay, it requires a lot of energy and time from preparing costume, test makeup, to shooting live on the day of the convention. For instance, trimming the wig, securing the headpiece, and even adjusting the movement amplitude during the shoot to match these metal accessories so the headpiece doesn't fall off. But seeing the final effect presented in the photos makes all the laborious preparation feel completely worthwhile. During this shoot, the photographer did a fantastic job capturing every dynamic moment, completely recording everything from the jump to improvised poses upon landing. I feel the true meaning of cosplay lies not only in bringing a 2D character into reality, but also in accurately delivering the character's traits, personality, and our secondary expression as cosplayers through photos to everyone looking at them. The softness and agility of the Hydro element were presented wonderfully in these convention photos through the blue, white, and gold color scheme and light materials. I hope these detail-packed and atmospheric convention photos allow everyone to feel the elegance and vitality of this character.
