[Columbina Cosplay] The White Dove under the Moon: Seeking a Haven in the Cold Wind

Chengdu suddenly cooled down last weekend, which happened to be the day we shot this set. Although mentally prepared, standing in the studio wearing this thin cosplay outfit still caught me off guard with the temperature difference inside and outside. I caught a cold right after going home and am still taking medicine now.

The upper outfit features a blue-and-white color scheme with a lightweight, ethereal feel; the fabric and trailing ribbons have a great drape. But there was a very awkward part—the headpiece. The physical item sent by the seller didn't look like the original artwork at all, looking very out of place when worn. After discussing, we decided to abandon the physical headpiece and had the post-processing editor photoshop one directly onto the final photos, which achieved the expected effect—a necessary compromise.

The theme was set as The White Dove under the Moon. To accentuate this cool, dreamy atmosphere, the venue decoration fit perfectly. There were white sheer curtains by the window and plenty of floral and plant decorations around the bed. Most cleverly, two luminous spheres were used as light sources; in the dark-toned frame, they not only added a fairytale feel but also brightened up the light on hands and face, saving a lot of post-processing effort. The photographer was great at capturing emotional vibes, and the cool-toned cinematic color grading instantly maximized the atmosphere. Although the scene looked cold, the warmth from the light sources balanced it just right.

The cold during shooting was truly unbearable. This off-the-shoulder, leg-revealing outfit design was a tough test for shooting speed, as every repoting depleted body warmth. Although the Genshin Impact cosplay outfit was pretty, keeping long hair with pink-dyed tips smooth under low temperatures was hard. Coupled with the lack of dedicated heating in the venue, my hair was often blown into mess by breezes, ruining my bangs in no time. Furthermore, the blue ribbons creased easily and had to be ironed again before wearing, or the visual texture in photos would be compromised.

To capture the detailed wrapping of strap bindings on my legs, the photographer had me adjust several sitting poses repeatedly, leaving a whole red patch of strap marks on my legs when I got home. However, for the sake of elegance in the final photos, these minor discomforts were acceptable. When portraying this character, I hoped to convey her mysterious yet gentle qualities—especially in such a quiet setting, no longer standing in a crowd, but in a more relaxed, private space. Post-processing meticulously refined the headpiece; though it took a long time, the overall composition and lighting completion rate were high. Looking back, that quiet, ethereal feel with a touch of fairytale color in the final photos was exactly what I wanted to convey through Anime-style photography.

Finally, to summarize my experience: next time shooting outdoors during a cold snap, I really must stick heating pads all over my body—this time was a lesson paid with my health. But being able to turn the image in my mind into concrete photography works, no matter how chaotic the process, was a fantastic experience.
