Putting on the Skirk cosplay outfit, complete with long white hair and blue-purple gloves, my destination this time is Guangzhou's Grandview Polar Ocean World. A friend mentioned before that the blue light, shadows, and deep-sea tanks here are perfect for fantasy-style shots, so I specifically picked this costume with its prominent water elements from Genshin Impact to try out. Right as I entered, I was blown away by the 270° panoramic sky curtain; that immersive feeling of being enveloped in blue instantly transported me into the underwater world of the game.
\ My first stop was straight to the 360° ultra-wide-angle underwater tunnel. I tried holding my phone upside down to shoot the schools of fish above; when the manta rays swam past, it genuinely felt like being surrounded by a starry river. Light-colored clothing looks incredibly clean when shooting silhouettes under this blue light. Next was the 40-meter-deep Guinness-record display tank, where a massive statue of Poseidon stands amidst the schools of fish, offering an incredibly powerful visual impact. I stood in front of the tank and took a few panoramic shots. The deep blue water and swimming fish made the character look even more cool-toned and mysterious, matching Skirk's aura flawlessly.
I also lingered for a long time in the jellyfish corridor, where the glowing jellyfish looked like they had built-in breathing lights in the dark environment, allowing for transparent shots without any extra lighting. For this kind of environment with heavy blue light, I highly recommend bringing a small fill light if possible to add a bit of warm color to your face, making the skin tone softer. If you don't have one, try to find the aquarium's own light sources for side-lighting, such as the spotlights next to the jellyfish or fish tanks, which will make facial contours more three-dimensional, capturing the distinct vibe of underwater photography.
Besides taking photos, I was also deeply engrossed in the performances. The underwater show "The Origin of Green and White" and "The Phantom of Mermaids" are definitely worth waiting for. I went ten minutes early to secure a spot; the mermaids' movements underwater were incredibly fluid, and every single frame captured looked like a wallpaper.
The animals in the ocean world are also very healing. Seeing sea lions and penguins moving and swimming behind the glass, combined with the powerful air conditioning throughout the venue, made it a very comfortable way to escape the summer heat in scorching Guangzhou. I took a lot of photos on this trip, and my favorites are a few from the jellyfish area and the tunnel entrance; the emotional resonance of the blue tones is truly powerful.
For the overall route, I recommend entering after 3 PM. The interaction between the lighting and ambient light is more natural, and it avoids peak crowds, ensuring the background won't be too cluttered when shooting portraits.
