This winter-themed blue snowflake dress ensemble was thoroughly discussed ever since the project's early planning stages. To align with the 'Misty Frosty Love' theme, we scouted locations in advance and chose a studio backdrop featuring soft gradients and falling snow special effects. My partner for this shoot was @Ziziziluo, who cosplayed Watanabe You, while I portrayed Riko Sakurauchi. Because this was a duo shoot, we spent significant effort in pre-production grooming the plush details of our outfits. The faux-fur trims along the skirt hemline and wide bell cuffs tend to appear dull and messy under studio strobes if not combed out meticulously. Just smoothing out the skirt layers and fastening the boot buckles took us a solid half-hour before shooting.
In terms of hair and makeup, to complement the winter snow scene environment and the 'Misty Frosty Love' motif, my wig was given a matte treatment to prevent harsh glare under strong lighting. @Ziziziluo wore blue floral hair ornaments to echo the overall palette. My eye makeup utilized cool-toned eyeshadow paired with a sheer, dewy base to ensure a consistently clean look in both tight close-ups and wide perspectives. When executing the duo poses, sitting nestled together required extra core balance. We tested multiple angles: reaching my right arm around her to rest on her shoulder not only demanded physical stability, but also required vigilance not to crush the fur collar or lace at the back of her dress. Our photographer, @Xiaosun, was exceptionally meticulous with lighting adjustments. Artificial snow easily blows out into solid white patches under flash strobes, so we repositioned the lights to evenly illuminate our faces while sculpting crisp dimensional separation between the dark blue snowflakes on the fabric and the white fur trims. The blue gradient background also required careful rim lighting to keep the subject edges—particularly the fluffy collars—from melting into the backdrop, ensuring crisp isolation for post-processing and composite work.
Furthermore, the seated posture was a genuine test of core endurance. Supported by petticoats, keeping the skirts flared into blossom-like arcs meant holding our backs rigid and leaning slightly forward before the lens for extended periods. The floor was lined with specialized snow ground cover; prolonged shooting under cool lights left our knees and ankles aching from prolonged muscle tension, but beholding the ethereal atmosphere on the monitor made every ounce of effort worthwhile. To infuse the frames with emotional storytelling, our interactions were guided by original character personalities: Riko is naturally more reserved and composed, whereas You is brighter and more buoyant, leading to subtle nuances in our intersecting gazes—she looked forward while I tilted my head slightly toward her. The color palette centered around three cool tones: blue, white, and purple. In post-production, we prioritized preserving natural skin warmth to prevent a pallid complexion, maintaining an organic, breathing vibrancy within the frame. Producing this set was not only a showcase of intricate costuming, but also an exploration of broader thematic possibilities for these beloved characters.
