Today at Mengxiang Expo, I cosplayed Kunikida Hanamaru in her Aqours Idol stage costume. Taking advantage of the great lighting on site, I quickly grabbed photographer flair to take a couple of quick snaps. This outfit truly has so many details: the royal blue sleeveless top has a blue-and-white striped tie at the collar, a white pearl necklace draped across the chest, and golden trims and emblem decorations on the shoulders and neckline. What took the most effort was the treatment around the waist—a large bow made of pink ribbon with a golden 3D flower ornament secured in the center, followed below by a Blue and white plaid skirt (pleated), with the skirt hem edged with a strip of dark blue sequins. When putting it on, the angles of each layer had to be carefully adjusted to ensure the skirt maintained an appealing layered look while walking.
A lot of thought went into the makeup. To recreate the character's feel, I wore tawny-amber contact lenses, layered clearly defined false eyelashes and eyeliner for the eye makeup, and applied blush to both sides of my cheeks across a much larger area than daily makeup, making my overall complexion look radiant. The headdress is a white headband with white plush decorations, paired with orange-brown long straight hair and bangs trimmed to an even, blunt thickness. For gloves, I chose white ones with blue cuffs at the wrists, wearing a blue armlet on my right upper arm and a lace-trimmed sleeve cuff on my left upper arm, while also holding a smartphone as a small prop. Although these accessories were intricate, having them all on truly elevated the overall completion of the look significantly.
When shooting the first photo, I struck a saluting pose, raising my right hand near my forehead while letting my left hand hang naturally holding the phone. In the second shot, I held the phone in front of my chest, propped my index finger against my chin, and tilted my head slightly toward the camera. Photographer flair was very quick with the shutter, capturing quite a natural state. The background was actually full of acquaintances; everyone was resting or taking photos of each other in this area, making the vibe very relaxed. Because people were walking in the background, we angled the shot slightly to make the subject stand out more.
Walking around the exhibition hall in this Idol stage costume, I subconsciously kept an upright, straight posture—after all, Aqours' stage costumes inherently carry a positive and uplifting energy. Kunikida Hanamaru has very distinct personality traits in her setting; once dressed up in this outfit, with makeup done and standing before the camera, I couldn't help but naturally want to showcase that energetic, spirited side of hers. Walking through the convention was quite physically demanding, and the costume accessories had some weight to them, but seeing all these details clearly documented in the Convention photos made all the time spent preparing the costume and adjusting details feel entirely worthwhile. That wraps up this quick snap record from Mengxiang Expo; looking forward to running into more fellow fans at conventions next time!
