[Reimu Hakurei Cosplay & Marisa Kirisame cosplay] Touhou Project: High-Altitude Snow scene cosplay Dream Journey

We brought the costumes straight up to the snowline at an altitude over 4,000 meters. One second I was inhaling oxygen in the car, and the next I was gritting my teeth standing between a frozen sub-zero river and withered grass. This challenge was dedicated to Reimu Hakurei Cosplay and Marisa Kirisame cosplay from Touhou Project—what many call the protagonist duo. The initial vision was to capture a dreamy high-altitude Snow scene cosplay. The red-and-white Reimu outfit has extensive lace trimmings and heavy large bows; to stop the gusting wind from wildly tangling the skirt, I had to tidy it up constantly. Photo 1 features kneeling in a shallow pool strewn with ice shards; my knees were completely frozen numb right through my Long socks cosplay. The ribbons on the purification rod kept whipping around wildly, and we had to wait quite a while for the wind to blow in the right direction.

In Photo 2, the Marisa look featured a large witch's hat while holding a warm yellow lantern. Standing on the snow slope during the shoot, the sunlight was scorching bright, yet the biting icy wind blew furiously—feeling simultaneously frozen and sunburned was truly grueling. To capture crisp facial contours alongside the textured layers of the snow-capped mountains in the background, we dialed in our exposure settings repeatedly.

The jumping back-view shot in Photo 3 was taken on a meadow beside the river. Jumping at extreme altitudes severely drains stamina, and the ground was soaked and spongy, offering precarious footing in heels. I jumped multiple times before catching that split second where the skirt billowed open perfectly while maintaining an airy, weightless motion—at that moment, whether my shoes and dress hem got muddy was the least of my concerns.

Photo 4 was taken after heading indoors to touch up makeup. Due to the howling wind drying and cracking the foundation, I reapplied powder and tidied up the red-and-white bow collar on the chest. For both costumes, tremendous care went into replicating everything from lace textures to wig styling. Considering the high altitude and biting temperatures, wearing long stockings to shield my legs was mandatory, so our Long socks cosplay styling had a subtle bit of practical warmth baked in.

The landscape there was genuinely breathtaking. Mid-shoot, we encountered a white horse drinking from the icy river—it felt almost destined, so we quickly snapped the moment. The entire shoot was a relentless cycle of inhaling oxygen and sticking on body warmers; halfway through, I even felt close to fainting. We had to take turns keeping camera batteries warm inside our coats, otherwise the cameras wouldn't even turn on in the frigid air. Yet having the privilege to use our own interpretation and styling to bring them to life across this silent snowy wilderness, framed alongside cold snow-capped mountains, makes all behind-the-scenes struggles worth it. Such an authentic, visceral experience makes this Touhou Project shoot far more memorable than any amount of retouching could ever achieve.
