[Shigure Ui cosplay] Loli Kami Requiem: Zako Time in the Classroom - Image 1

A lot of thought went into this Shigure Ui uniform starting from fabric selection. I revised the pinafore dress pattern twice before achieving that ideal balance of gentle flare and clean drape. The crispness of the shirt collar was equally crucial; once the red ribbon tie was fastened, the layered depth of the outfit really came alive. The wig was quite tricky to manage—especially those two fluffy scrunchies, which required repeated angle adjustments to sit naturally without looking stiff. To embody that signature tsundere look tinged with haughty condescension, I specifically wore green contact lenses paired with subtly winged eyeliner, emphasizing the expressive spark in the eyes. For the White stockings, I selected an opaque, slightly thicker denier that wouldn't sheer out, catching smooth highlights on the wooden floor to enrich the shot's texture.

The studio was transformed into a classic Japanese classroom. The 'zako' (small fry) doodles and stick-figure sketches on the chalkboard were drawn on the spot, which, together with the nearby volleyball cart and student desks, instantly maxed out the anime school atmosphere. During the shoot, the photographer suggested utilizing the height difference of the chairs to highlight the character silhouette. I tried a pose hugging my knees with one leg tucked in, fully showing off the lines of the White stockings and red-and-white Mary Jane shoes while emphasizing a petite, dainty frame. Foot placement mattered just as much: pointing or slightly tucking the toes expressed a casual, mildly petulant attitude. In terms of eye acting, staring blankly at the lens wouldn't do—it needed a scrutinizing, mischievous glint to nail the core essence of the mesugaki trope.

The red-and-white school bag and scrunchies served as perfect finishing touches, establishing great color harmony. Lighting-wise, to complement fair skin tones and bring out the dimensional blonde hair fibers, we opted for a soft frontal key light while preserving delicate shadows for sculpting. Since the uniform itself is relatively dark, the White stockings and pale blonde wig naturally popped out as strong visual focal points. Throughout the shoot, I made a conscious effort to keep my movements gentle and measured, giving myself time to sink into the character so each frame felt like an unfolding narrative rather than a rigid pose.

To enhance that playful charm, when trimming the twin-tail wig, I textured the bangs with delicate wisps so they wouldn't look heavy or blocky. For makeup, alongside the green contacts and eyeliner, blush was placed slightly higher on the cheekbones to create a flushed, childlike innocence. For the uniform, I cinched the waist belt tighter to accentuate the waistline, bringing my proportions closer to stylized 2D anime figures.

Prop placement in the classroom was carefully thought out. The volleyball cart on the right and the chalkboard graffiti in the back formed an immersive background. Sitting on a low chair meant I had to keep my back straight and avoid slouching my neck forward. Clasping both hands over my knees is a classic defensive gesture, yet in this context, it took on an inquisitive, teasing edge. Under the lights, the White stockings caught soft, fine highlights; in post-production color grading, I asked the photographer to preserve the stockings' texture and natural gradients to sculpt dimensional leg contours. Slipping off the shoes and setting them beside me not only kept the framing uncluttered but also highlighted the tactile feel of stepping on the wooden floor in White stockings.

I also experimented with different angles, such as a subtle low angle that anchored viewer focus onto the legs and matched the character's haughty, looking-down demeanor. The entire shoot was a continuous dialogue of refining nuances with the photographer—where to rest hands, the exact angle of the legs, and precise focal points for my gaze. Capturing that disdainful 'zako' smirk meant keeping my gaze sharp and intently locked. I truly hope everyone feels the charm of this character through these photos.
