[Alf cosplay] Silver Palace Record at Firefly ACG Expo

I spent the entire day cosplaying Alf at the Firefly ACG Expo today. While this Silver Palace outfit looks gorgeous on the surface, wearing it made me realize just how intricate the details truly are. The wig has a high-saturation pink hue, so the ahoge on top and the pom-pom hair accessories on both sides needed extra securing; otherwise, moving through the convention crowd would have easily messed them up. Because the venue interior was quite dim, getting crisp shots mostly relied on the photographer's frontal fill flash. The costume is dominated by black and white: the black-and-gold choker at the collar forms a striking visual contrast with the giant red bow on the chest, while the black leather belt, gold chains, and waist pocket watch prop add a subtle retro-steampunk touch. Then there are the White stockings—since I wore them all day, I constantly had to watch out for snags.

When posing, I tried out quite a few different postures to suit Alf's personality and visual design. I started with a front-facing standing pose with both hands raised as if channeling an ability, but later felt that a finger-heart gesture better suited the casual, upbeat con vibe. A few shots were also taken leaning against a folding step ladder. That ladder happened to be right in front of a dark backdrop, so I rested my chin on my folded arms and leaned partially over it; the photographer captured some really nice profile shots. Under continuous bright strobe flashes inside such an expo hall, keeping your eyes open toward the lens without letting your smile freeze up is a genuine test of stamina and expression control.

The venue was packed, and the atmosphere at Firefly ACG Expo was buzzing as always. There were plenty of photographers wielding telephoto lenses, along with convention-goers stopping by to ask for photos. When taking this series, the photographer's powerful speedlight pushed the background crowd into darkened silhouettes, which conveniently highlighted the specular reflections and vibrant colors of the costume. The White stockings really stood out under the sharp light, and paired with the black, white, and red uniform, the vibe came out both sweet and cool. The red scabbard prop at my waist needed a bit of extra attention whenever I turned or struck a pose; because of its length, it easily bumped into nearby clutter or against my own legs, so when leaning against the ladder, I deliberately angled it slightly backward.

The skirt features a multi-tiered cut with a black lace trim inside, making walking fairly tricky and prone to tripping. As a result, I spent most of the day hiking up the hem slightly. As for makeup, today's focus was heavily on blush and eye definition. Combined with bright blue contact lenses and the styled wig, that distinct 2D anime feel came right through. The photographer's sharp lighting rendered every wrinkle and fabric texture with crisp clarity. Cosplaying characters with heavy, multi-layered outfits is always an endurance challenge, but walking away with so many sharp convention photos makes every ounce of posing practice completely worth it. In low-light environments, direct flash not only illuminates the subject but drops away the chaotic background clutter, resulting in pictures that look even punchier than what the naked eye sees. Exploring different nuances for this character and connecting with everyone at the expo made it a deeply rewarding day.
