[Lumine cosplay] Genshin Impact Traveler: The Honorary Knight Arrives

Adjusting the cut and pattern of this Genshin Impact Traveler Lumine costume took considerable time from sampling to final wear. The original design appears airy, but reproducing the dimension of the white-and-blue color blocking in real fabric is no easy feat. I chose a satin fabric with a subtle sheen; both the blue piping and golden stamped foil motifs had to remain perfectly flat without creasing, otherwise it would read poorly under studio flashes.

The wig styling focused on the strands framing both sides of the bangs. I relied on hairspray and flat irons to lock the shape in place, ensuring it wouldn't droop even after an entire day of walking around the convention. The small white floral headpiece at the crown is the crowning touch; to make it stand out with three-dimensional depth, I reinforced the back with extra clips. For makeup, to harmonize with the Traveler's demeanor, I favored a minimalist approach centered on clarity and those blue-green contact lenses, extending the eyeliner only subtly at the outer corners to avoid looking overly fierce, paired with a soft pink lip to channel that resilience and pristine purity born from crossing the sea of stars.

Both the highlight and challenge of this ensemble lie in the lower half. The skirt features an asymmetrical high-low hem: the black front panel is stamped with refined white lines and gold motifs, only revealing the light blue inner lining when sweeping in motion. Meanwhile, the white cutout leggings (White stockings) with geometric patterning became a love-hate element during the shoot. While they beautifully flatter the leg lines and visually elongate stature when paired with gold-tipped white ankle boots, the fabric snags easily. Moreover, because the pattern seams sit near the knees and ankles, poses had to be calibrated with immense care to prevent awkward creases from marring the frame. To move freely across the convention floor, I applied anti-slip strips and internal reinforcements beforehand.

The convention hall lighting was quite chaotic with harsh overhead glare and heavy foot traffic. To capture crisp Convention photos, the photographer and I constantly scouted cleaner backgrounds and angles. My favorite shot is the one extending a hand forward: echoing the line 'The Honorary Knight arrives,' I wanted to evoke a welcoming, guiding gesture. The foreshortening of an outstretched arm brings engaging interactivity while unveiling the dimensional layers on the back of the costume. Holding this stance tested balance heavily: beyond keeping the arm line fluid, engaging the leg muscles was necessary to spread the cutout pattern smoothly and keep the silhouette slender.

Walking the floor in this outfit meant minding my stride at all times due to the delicate skirt and leg fabric, but seeing the delight in everyone's eyes whenever they recognized the Traveler made every bit of preparation worthwhile. Recreating costume fidelity and nailing wearability are decisive for convention photography, and this project gave me rich hands-on experience in fabric selection and tailoring adjustments.
