[Awa Subaru cosplay] Chongqing Dreamland ACG Expo Chronicle: Wearing the Girls Band Cry JK Uniform to Grab Freebies at the Century Baida Dreamland Pavilion

Cosplaying Awa Subaru from Girls Band Cry at the Chongqing Dreamland ACG Expo today went much smoother than anticipated. Morning makeup prep took considerable time: Subaru has very defined facial features, so I deepened the eyeshadow blending and paired it with contact lenses to evoke that signature blend of effortless languor and endearing charm. I chose a high-quality straight black wig, putting extra care into trimming and setting the bangs so they wouldn't obscure my eyes while walking around the convention floor. The white butterfly hair accessory at the crown was a subtle focal highlight that instantly elevated character fidelity. To withstand the stifling convention hall heat without melting the makeup, I used a long-wear liquid foundation locked down firmly with pressed translucent powder.

The styling was anchored in the classic beige knit cardigan layered over a crisp white collared shirt, complemented by a deep green ribbon tie and a grey pleated skirt. On the lower half, slouchy white loose socks paired with glossy black patent uniform loafers rounded out the look. To enrich tactile details, I had custom elongated nail art applied with 3D floral and star charms; while gorgeous on camera, it made changing garments and handling items slightly tricky. While this JK uniform is relatively common across conventions, pairing it with Subaru's distinct demeanor gave it clear, recognizable character presence. Navigating the sprawling exhibition halls definitely tired out my legs, yet posing before cameras washed all fatigue away.

Upon arriving, my first mission was heading to the Century Baida Dreamland Pavilion to collect freebies. The area was packed, though everyone queued up in an orderly fashion. Getting my hands on a massive bag of exclusive merch was an absolute joy. The ACG atmosphere across the venue was electric—whether browsing vendor booths or watching the main stage, fellow fans were everywhere. I looped through the halls several times, meeting many cosplayers from the same franchise to take selfies and exchange cosplay styling notes. The humid weather coupled with a knit cardigan meant breaking a sweat with any movement, yet everyone's enthusiasm remained sky-high. I made a point of visiting renowned feature booths to capture plenty of convention-floor portraits.

As a cosplayer who obsesses over details, bringing a character to life goes far beyond just putting on an outfit. To capture that authentic slice-of-life atmosphere, I constantly adjusted positioning and lighting angles. Camera presence is paramount: during high-angle downshots, facial expressions like winks or peace signs needed to align precisely with her personality. I also borrowed a blue canvas tote as a prop, adorned with keychains and badges collected from my personal stash that harmonized surprisingly well. The charms jingling with every stride felt wonderfully in-character. The convention lighting was tricky, as flat overhead halogen lights can easily wash out facial depth, so I actively sought side-lit angles and framed compositions around backdrop standees with great results. Due to time constraints, we couldn't shoot exterior sets, but the indoor hall ambiance was already rich and immersive. Once I sort through the raw photos at home, I'll start sharing the convention portraits. Although physically drained, my spirit is completely recharged. Connecting with like-minded friends who pour their heart into shared passions is pure bliss. Now it's time to rest up and begin drafting prop fabrications for my next project.
