[Alice cosplay] The Red-Haired Cat-Eared Girl from Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation - Dark Garage Backlit Convention Photo

This set of Alice cosplay convention photos was shot in an underground garage, mainly to experiment with dark-toned backlighting. By using an off-camera flash behind the subject, a transparent rim light was created along the edges of the red hair and cat ears while underexposing the background, making the subject pop out from the darkness. For makeup, red contact lenses and warm-toned eyeshadow were emphasized to complement the character's long red hair. In terms of outfit, it features a classic combination of a black-and-white uniform with a red inner layer, White stockings, and Mary Jane shoes. To highlight the features of this outfit, we tried poses such as holding the cat ears, making a peace sign, and lifting the skirt hem while raising a leg. Lifting the skirt hem is especially great for showcasing leg length with White stockings and the texture of the shoes. Since the venue was dark, the photographer also used a reflector to fill in light on the face, ensuring an even skin tone that blends seamlessly with the rim light behind. Regarding the overall effect, I feel the atmosphere created by backlighting has much more tension than conventional flat lighting. Although constantly adjusting the flash angle and power output was time-consuming during the shoot, the final photos turned out very compelling. I usually do bright, sweet-style collaborative shoots, so this dark backlit session was a great style transition. Through this experience, I found that different styles have quite different demands on posing and facial expression control.
