Shooting this swimsuit set for Shirasu Azusa was a truly special experience. In Blue Archive, Azusa is a character with a cool, distant exterior yet a soft, tender heart; once in her seaside swimsuit, that subtle detachment blends seamlessly with innocent, youthful charm.

Starting with the swimsuit design: the pink-and-blue color palette radiates a crisp summer vibe, with the large pink ribbon across the chest serving as the visual anchor, paired with black-and-white striped sheer puff sleeves that add dynamic depth to the silhouette. The ruffled trims along the skirt hem are delicately crafted, draping with natural flow as I moved. The white sheer tulle behind the back is styled like delicate wings, capturing an airy, weightless aesthetic with the slightest turn of the body. To bring the look closer to the character, I chose blue-violet contact lenses alongside straight silver-white locks and her signature golden halo overhead. Nuances like the red ribbons flanking the hair and the colorful little fish hair clips were carefully coordinated to honor the original character art—though small, these accessories enrich the composition when the camera zooms in.

The set was built inside an indoor studio featuring a high-gloss purple-pink iridescent reflective platform. While this material creates stunning reflections that expand spatial depth on camera, walking across it barefoot was remarkably slippery; holding an elegant seated pose while barefoot genuinely required full-body core engagement for balance. Lounging on the wooden beach chair with crossed legs looked effortless, yet to flatter leg contours before the lens, the arches of my feet had to be subtly pointed while maintaining core tension. Resting bare feet against the reflective surface also demanded caution to avoid curling toes awkwardly, which became a meticulous test of detail.

The photographer dedicated significant effort to lighting. To keep skin tones translucent, the key light was softly diffused, working harmoniously with the pink backdrop to establish a cohesive color palette. The wooden barrel and beach chair grounded the scene with tangible realism, while rubber ducks, a beach ball, and a transparent beach tote enriched the frame with lively summer colors. During shooting, I kept my composure relaxed, channeling the imagined sensation of ocean breezes, maintaining a clear, tranquil gaze that flickered between her usual reserved aloofness and girlish innocence. Hand gestures were equally vital—resting fingers gently near the collarbone or draping hands naturally over the legs helped anchor the character's temperament.

This shoot avoided exaggerated poses, relying instead on nuanced gazes and subtle body language to convey her personality. For a casual, slice-of-life swimsuit concept, natural comfort is paramount; rather than forcing rigid stances, capturing a relaxed state of being works best. From hair and makeup prep to lighting calibration in the studio, every step was tuned to present Shirasu Azusa at her best in this setting. That quintessential summer freshness combined with the playful swimsuit design converged into the final imagery.
