The core of this birthday celebration project is to restore Yae Sakura's classic look in Tougen Renka. For this day, from the preparation of costumes, makeup, and props to the scene setup, it took nearly two months of hard work.
The makeup mainly highlighted pink eyeshadow to echo the hair color, paired with blue contact lenses to add the texture of heterochromia. The pink short hair was trimmed to fit the head shape closely, paired with that pair of fluffy pink long kemonomimi ears, adding a lot of agility to the overall visual effect. In terms of clothing, I chose a white improved halterneck qipao-style dress with exquisite light-colored embroidery on the collar and skirt body. To increase visual layering, I paired thin red arm rings on my arms and a white lace leg ring on my right leg, stepping on a pair of white chunky-heeled Mary Jane shoes. The overall styling seeks a balance between pure white and pink.
The set decoration on the shooting day was also a major project. In the background, a dark wooden screen with geometric hollow-out elements was built with great light transmittance, and pink gauze curtains were hung behind it. The most eye-catching part was the huge pink cherry blossom tree, as well as the pink petals covering the ground. To echo the Japanese-style theme, I also specially arranged several crane ornaments in the scene, one spreading its wings as if ready to fly and the other standing still, adding some vitality to the picture. On the left dressing table were placed a retro wooden box, a bronze mirror, a white porcelain vase, and a calligraphy scroll, while on the right was a tall table also set with flower arrangements and a porcelain vase. The color tone of the entire scene is intense pink and red, rendered with warm yellow lighting, presenting a rich oriental classical stage feel overall.
During the shooting process, my favorite design was the pink folding fan in my hand. The fan is made of translucent bamboo rib material, which has a great light-transmitting effect under the light. In terms of action design, I chose a half-kneeling posture, holding the fan with one hand to lightly cover my face, while the other hand extends outward from the frame, and the gaze needs to maintain a cool yet playful feeling. The half-kneeling posture can well showcase the slit design of the dress, and at the same time make the leg lines look more slender in the picture. Although the knees were quite strained during shooting due to the need to constantly adjust the center of gravity for the kneeling posture, seeing the light and shadow effect of the finished photos makes me feel that everything was totally worth it.
For the birthday celebration, this set of photos is not only the fulfillment of a wish, but also a summary of my understanding of this character. Finally filming this project in 2026 can also be considered handing in a satisfying answer sheet for this character.
