[Shiranui cosplay] Onmyoji 10th Anniversary: Freezing Eternal Light with A Li

To commemorate the Onmyoji 10th Anniversary, I put together this official photoshoot for Shiranui (A Li). From the initial selection of this pink Japanese style cosplay kimono, countless hours were dedicated to matching fine details. The jacquard weave patterns and the crimson cord ties along the sleeves demanded flawless recreation; I deliberately chose a textile that combined a delicate luster with featherlight weight, allowing it to billow effortlessly before the lens. The wig was custom-dyed in a white-to-pink gradient, with the twin buns on top reworked twice to achieve the ideal airy volume, while the flame-shaped crimson accents on the hairpieces were emphasized according to my interpretation of her lore. For makeup, beyond sweeping red eyeshadow gradients, the single teardrop marking beneath my left eye was hand-painted stroke by stroke to embody that aloof yet mesmerizing yokai presence. Since my natural features are relatively gentle, I subtly sharpened the brow arches to give my gaze penetrating intensity. The base makeup leaned matte to minimize unwanted shine, ensuring an elevated finish under shifting light angles.

The shooting day was a true test of physical stamina. To complement the ethereal flight of the drapery, the set was staged in a traditional Japanese room framed by crimson pillars and paper lanterns, backed by ukiyo-e folding screens and scattered cherry blossom boughs. To catch the fleeting moments when the hem billowed into the air, I continuously spun and swirled my folding fans. Controlling the cadence of opening and closing both fans was crucial—the upper fan with blue backing and red florals paired with the lower violet-pink gradient fan added tremendous dynamic tension under moving lights. The photographer balanced side-backlighting with warm lantern fills; the gentle glow emerging through paper screens not only traced my silhouette but gave three-dimensional depth to every fabric fold. Because the bell sleeves are immensely wide, they easily tangled mid-spin, requiring constant communication with the photographer to find fluid motions that showcased the weightless drape without clutter. Wearing the heavy wig and intricate hairpieces for hours also meant adjusting pins carefully during breaks to preserve structural integrity.

Throughout the shoot, I continuously channeled Shiranui's heart—a figure radiating peak brilliance on stage while harboring quiet solitude and unbroken pride. The tenth anniversary is a momentous milestone for Onmyoji and its players, and interpreting A Li through my own vision at this juncture felt deeply meaningful. Rather than stacking complex, forced poses for hollow grandeur, I focused on letting my gaze and the layered reveal behind the fans express emotional depth. For instance, the moment of glancing back over my shoulder as the light kissed my cheek carried immense narrative weight without extra embellishment. Exhausting as the process was, seeing the finished frames made every ounce of effort worthwhile—my small tribute to the Onmyoji 10th Anniversary. From pre-production to the final shutter click, I gave my absolute best within my abilities, hoping these photos convey A Li's timeless beauty and the profound emotions Onmyoji has gifted me over these ten years.
