Guide Tsubaki in Blue Archive, with her unique temperament somewhere between a girl's charming innocence and a reliable staff member, is a type I really love trying out. For this shoot, we carefully studied every detail of the original artwork and put a lot of effort into making the costume. The custom-tailored dark navy blue blazer for the uniform part is crisp, fitting the body perfectly to outline the uniform's silhouette without restricting the fluidity of the poses. The pure white lapel shirt, the iconic vintage red bow tie, the semi-embedded communication microphone at the neckline, and the matching pure white etiquette gloves—the entire outfit can be said to materialize the tour guide identity of this schoolgirl.

The makeup and hairstyle also leaned closely into the character: a neat black short haircut paired with that special, somewhat lazy and sleepy expression, topped with a custom-made dark blue beret featuring little bear ears and two small flowers pinned to the brim. These small details inject more life into the character. The tone of the shooting environment was also crucial. Choosing to shoot inside an authentic Japanese-style room, with the traditional wooden lattices and translucent cream-white shoji doors in the background, made the light throughout the space exceptionally soft and warm. This perfectly coincided with the everyday atmosphere of Guide Tsubaki that I wanted to present.

When shooting this set of photos, I paid special attention to the color coordination of the makeup, choosing warm earth tones and a touch of red eyeshadow for the eye makeup to echo the red flowers on the brim of the hat. This subtle interweaving of colors makes the character look more vivid and three-dimensional, rather than just a simple stacking of clothes. Regarding the props, the waving angle of the red flag actually went through multiple test shots. Since the canvas material is quite soft, it would collapse if the supporting angle wasn't right; we had to find the right tension and angle to present that striking sense of guidance in front of the lens.

Several poses in the photos also required quite a bit of skill. In the first image, I sat down, slightly bending and crossing my knees to align my gaze with the camera, letting my eyes zone out for a moment to create a relaxed vibe of slacking off and daydreaming during a work break—a state that perfectly fits her original character setting. In the second and third photos where the red flag prop was introduced, to prevent the flag-holding pose from looking stiff, I intentionally adjusted my shoulder position to let my body tilt naturally. Paired with a red hexagonal paper lantern nearby as a background embellishment, the red prop instantly grabs the visual focus against the dark blue uniform and elegant Japanese-style room background, forming a beautiful color echo and contrast.

The cat that wandered into the frame in the last image was a pleasant surprise during that day's shoot. At that moment, it was probably curious about my movements in the Japanese-style room, so it casually lay down next to the chair leg, and the photographer capitalized on the moment to snap the picture. The cat's casual approach added a rich sense of healing and slice-of-life realism to the image, making it feel as if Tsubaki were truly staying in her own tour guide reception room. During shooting breaks, I also tried to handle various body languages in the lightest state possible; however, to manifest the character's silhouette, maintaining these seemingly relaxed postures actually required a lot of core and leg control strength. Compared to the overall dark blue uniform, the black coiled microphone cord hanging from the chest actually carries a lot of storytelling; it is both a professional trait of the character and breaks up the uniform's singular visual flow, keeping the silhouette from looking too rigid. Ultimately, being able to present such a set of photos filled with character atmosphere makes all the hard preparation worth it, allowing me to fully immerse myself in a Japanese style cosplay daily routine within Blue Archive.
