The second photo set of the Jade and Lapis Twins paired with Seiya has finally been completed smoothly. I've always loved the concept of these sisters in Rozen Maiden; though their personalities seem completely different, that everyday bond of relying on and teasing each other really touches my heart. For this shoot, we chose a park with a European fountain and stone arches. The sunshine was just right and the dappled tree shadows were perfect for showcasing their fairytale-like yet vintage aesthetic.
Let's talk about the costume first. Suiseiseki's green dress is made of velvet fabric, feeling very substantial to the touch. I patiently hand-sewed the black lace trim along the hem myself; to recreate that cascading, voluminous fluffiness, I wore three whole layers of petticoats underneath. The white lace trim along the collar and the black corset lacing also took careful thought—the tightness of the lacing had to be just right, maintaining a sculpted silhouette without feeling suffocating. The folds and draping of the headdress were adjusted several times, and I'm quite happy with the final result. As for the golden watering can prop, the rose relief was 3D printed, then hand-painted and weathered; its hefty weight in hand perfectly adds a sense of grounded composure to the character.
Now, huge praise to my partner Seiya—her Souseiseki Cosplay was jaw-droppingly handsome! Her blue-and-black knickerbockers suit has a lustrous sheen that reflects light with great texture when walking. The top hat with a blue ribbon, paired with a white lace jabot and black vest, looks crisp and dashing. In particular, that giant pair of scissors—though crafted with hollow materials to stay lightweight—still carries immense presence when posing. Even more impressive was her expression: beneath the cosplay, she is a super sweet and cute girl, yet the moment she steps into character, her gaze turns resolute and gentle, giving off a distinct sense of reliability beside me. The makeup was done by Huantoumao, who excels at capturing character essence; the green contacts and eyeshadow were balanced flawlessly, preserving the character's cool poise without looking out of place, while the wig styling was natural, with the curl of the ends and bang length matching the original designs impeccably.
The shooting process was genuinely joyful. The two of us paced back and forth around the fountain many times, and to find the best lighting angles, photographer ACI Ci lay on the ground guiding our poses. The hand-holding pose in the photo was actually an impromptu idea: sunlight filtered down through the tree canopy just as we turned to look at each other, creating a deeply storytelling frame. And the final close-up leaning in together was a candid snapshot while we sat resting on the steps after getting tired; that natural side-head interaction felt far more charming than deliberate poses.
What brought me the greatest sense of accomplishment in this Cosplay duo was mastering the details. Beyond costumes and props, we aligned expressions and body language closely with the original lore. Suiseiseki is more reserved, so I mostly sat quietly or lowered my head slightly, while Seiya portrayed Souseiseki's guardian stance remarkably well—her slightly angled stance standing protectively beside me provided immense security. We also experimented with dynamic poses, such as sitting on the stone balustrade with the dress hem naturally draping to reveal subtle details of the White tights cosplay and platform shoes, creating a harmonious and high-end color palette.
After enjoying cosplay for so many years, the greatest joy is treating every work seriously alongside like-minded friends. From material selection to sewing, from prop making to makeup and hair coordination, every step embodies everyone's dedication. Seeing the finished photos on my phone, the lighting and atmosphere felt dialed in just right. Even though we endured mosquito bites and had to carry heavy skirt layers up and down the stairs, seeing our seamless chemistry in the photos made every bit worth it. I hope to challenge other themes with Seiya next time and keep exploring more creative possibilities on our cosplay journey.
