Part of the convention photos from this Firefly Anime Con has finally been edited, so I'm rushing to sort them out and post them this weekend. This set is a custom-design version combining nun and Gothic elements. Since I've always wanted to try this style with a strong black-and-white contrast, coupled with Mercury Lampe's intrinsic temperament, I put together this outfit myself.
For the wig, I chose a silver-white waist-length straight hair with blunt bangs. To keep the hairstyle from getting frizzy in high-intensity walking environments like an anime convention, I used hair essential oil beforehand and clipped hair extensions at the ends to add thickness. However, it was a bit windy outdoors that day, so the hair got slightly messy. Fortunately, the photographer captured the timing wonderfully, giving the images a flowing, dynamic feel. The makeup focused heavily on the eyes, featuring reddish-pink contact lenses, red eyeshadow layered at the outer corners of the eyes, and a matte red lip color, striving to stay close to the original character's icy, detached vibe.
In terms of costume, the main body is a black high-waisted dress, spliced with white pleated fabric on the chest, a black bow tied at the neckline, and a pink flower brooch in the center as the visual focal point. The sleeves are detachable; the upper arms are exposed, while the forearms are wide black bell sleeves with very wide white lace trim sewn at the cuffs. The skirt hem is A-line, making it very fluffy when walking, with a layer of white pleated lining underneath. To match this outfit, I wore white over-the-knee thigh-high stockings along with a pair of black glossy patent leather platform high heels. Walking around a convention all day in this outfit is actually quite tiring, especially the high heels, but I pushed through for the sake of the photos.
The most important prop this time is the big sword in my hand. The metallic paint finish on the blade has a great reflective texture, and the hilt is black, decorated with green gemstones and accented with red gemstones, with a black beaded chain dangling from the end. This sword is over a meter long and quite heavy in hand, so you need to find the right leverage points when taking pictures. Here, I'd like to share a few convention photo posing tips. When holding such a big sword, don't just stand casually; you can try lifting the sword overhead with one hand while letting the other hand hang down naturally, or block it in front of your body with a slight body lean, which flatters your body proportions nicely. A half-crouched pose also photographs wonderfully; standing the sword on the ground or holding it horizontally in front of you, paired with a gaze looking into the lens or sideways, can capture a very imposing aura.
Special thanks to photographer Moyu, whose pose guidance was extremely professional, capturing many natural expressions. The outdoor lighting at the Firefly Con that day was exceptionally strong, and we found several different camera positions in the shade of trees and next to buildings, utilizing natural light and a tiny bit of a reflector to shoot this set of high-contrast photos. Mercury Lampe's personality leans towards coldness and pride, so in expression management, I tried my best to control my smile, keeping my chin slightly tucked, with my gaze vacant or staring straight into the lens, cultivating that untouchable sense of alienation. Although this custom concept incorporates my own preferences in details, the overall black-and-white Gothic tone preserves the soul of the character. The convention has concluded, and the post-processing for this set is done. I hope everyone can feel the visual impact brought by this coordination.
