Traveling to Cologne, Germany was primarily dedicated to this Zenless Zone Zero Belle-imouto cosplay shoot. We scouted locations during the day, finding the night lighting around Cologne Cathedral exceptionally suited for capturing stunning frames. The outfit features an abundance of intricate details: a black-and-orange color-blocked techwear vest layered over a graphic black T-shirt, a retro handheld console prop and a small green plush charm at the waist, paired with a black pleated miniskirt, over-the-knee Stockings, and chunky platform sneakers, creating an authentic street-techwear silhouette.
As evening fell, shooting officially commenced. Cologne by night offered a stillness distinctly different from its daytime bustle; the cobblestones of the plaza created a striking contrast against the historic architecture illuminated by warm golden lights. The first series of poses was framed directly before the classical facades, extending my arms to showcase the character's signature confidence. The second series was positioned at the center of the square, where a dynamic one-legged stance relied heavily on core balance—challenging in platform footwear, yet visually brimming with energy. Finally, we transitioned to the bridge overlooking the water, leaning against the railings with the shimmering reflections along the Rhine behind me; the light trails of passing cars across the river delivered a truly cyberpunk aesthetic.
Given the complex ambient lighting, we used on-camera flash with diffusers for key frontal fill while preserving the background ambiance. The orange accents of the garment blended harmoniously with the warm ambient lights, while the high-saturation blue wig required constant adjustment in the evening breeze to maintain a clean silhouette on camera. The photographer guided the session expertly, capturing numerous candid dynamic moments. The shoot wrapped well past midnight; despite the physical fatigue, seeing the finished results made every effort worthwhile. The Cologne nightscape lent an exceptionally distinct atmosphere to this Belle cosplay.
Long before arriving in Cologne, Germany, I had been envisioning this Zenless Zone Zero Belle-imouto cosplay project. I packed and transported every piece of gear from back home: the black-and-orange techwear vest, the lettered black tee, the retro gaming console prop, and even the tiny green plush charm without missing a thing. For the lower half, I selected a black miniskirt detailed with side mesh paneling, paired with black over-the-knee Stockings and platform sneakers, bringing a sharp street-tech edge to life. Once in Cologne, our daytime scouting around the cathedral revealed an intersection of historic facades and modern avenues, perfectly tailored to the urban fantasy setting of the game.
When we kicked off shooting at night, the Cologne breeze carried a chill, but the evening lights were utterly breathtaking. We set up our gear along the plaza's cobblestones, framed against brilliantly illuminated Gothic structures. Recalling her confident yet effortless demeanor, I explored diverse posing sequences. The first involved placing my right hand on my hip and extending my left arm upward, requiring fully opened shoulder and neck lines. The second was a dynamic single-leg balance with hands clasped in front—a real test of balance in platform sneakers, yet repeated takes rewarded us with that lively, spirited bounce. Finally, moving to the bridge along the Rhine, I leaned against the metal railing as city lights and distant bridges mirrored across the water in gorgeous bokeh. Resting my left hand on the rail while gently tossing my hair with the right highlighted the layered profile of the outfit.
The challenge of night shooting lies in light management. We utilized speedlights paired with soft diffusion tools to illuminate the face without disrupting the background atmosphere, retaining rich chromatic depth from ambient lighting. A vibrant blue wig easily gets lost in dark night backdrops, demanding continuous angle adjustments to catch rim light. The Stockings also required constant care to avoid snags during walking and posing. Stretching across nearly four hours from the cathedral square to the bridge, the physical toll was real, yet viewing the cinematic, storytelling frames on camera made all the effort pay off. This overseas photoshoot provided me with a far deeper connection both to the character and to this city.
