Shooting these two sets of Genshin Impact Diona convention photos at the exhibition site finally checked off a flag I set earlier.
The second full-body photo is my personal favorite. The pose mimics a cat's pounce action. To get this posture right, I squatted on the exhibition hall's blue flooring for quite a while, keeping the muscles in my knees and thighs tense, which made my legs a bit sore later when walking. But seeing the final photo results, I feel this hardship was worth it. The first half-body photo aims to showcase the facial makeup and headwear this time. Under the close-up shot, you can see the bright green contact lenses and the deliberately heavy pink eyeshadow, coupled with those huge animal ears on top of the head, creating a strong visual impact.
Let's talk about the styling details of Diona this time. The wig is basic short pink hair. To restore that little ponytail on top of the head, I specifically used black thin rubber bands and metal small ball bindings. The animal ears are the highlight this time; animal ear props on the market vary in shape, and I chose this style which is gray outside and white inside with black tips, featuring a fluffy hair flow. When wearing them, they need to be firmly pinned to the inner net with hairpins, and combined with the tail at the back, the overall weight distribution is somewhat of a challenge. The tail is fixed via a metal buckle on the belt, and special care needs to be taken when walking to prevent it from being stepped on or getting stuck. The contact lenses were chosen as high-color-rendering cyan-green, which, matching the makeup, can well highlight the non-everyday feel of a 2D character.
In terms of clothing, the top is white, paired with an orange-yellow shawl and a flower-shaped decorative buckle on the chest. The cuffs are large pink lantern sleeves; to make the styling look more three-dimensional, I added small support frames inside. The lower body is dark blue shorts with a cutout skin-exposure design at the waist, and printed fabric hanging down on the sides. The leather straps on the thighs were adjusted several times to reach the appropriate tightness, and paired with white gloves, the overall look tries to restore the character's elements as much as possible. To ensure the stretch of my movements, I did a few deep breaths and arm stretches before taking pictures, because both hands needed to continuously maintain an inward-curved cat claw state, and holding them up for a long time makes them prone to stiffness.
Many friends might have noticed that I wrote "What bad intentions could a little kitty have?" and an apology in the copywriting. As someone who frequently goes to conventions, I sometimes have a clear awareness of my expressiveness. This time in a venue with so many people, having to watch out for stepping on the tail, maintain a cute demeanor, and try to make aggressive cat claw gestures in front of the camera is actually quite physically demanding. Coupled with the tightly wrapped clothing design of the Genshin Impact character, running around the exhibition hall for a day really makes you sweat. If this styling or performance didn't completely meet everyone's expectations in your heart, please accept this sincere apology. I will continue to practice body language and expression management.
For the shooting of these convention photos, I am very grateful for the photographer's guidance. The overhead lighting at the site was very harsh, requiring finding angles to avoid weird facial shadows, and the blue flooring reflection also needed camera angle control. In short, this was a shoot that consumed a lot of physical strength but also accumulated a lot of experience.
