Standing in front of the white studio backdrop as Digi-tan, with a pile of prepared snacks ready to be enjoyed in front of me, this Umamusume: Pretty Derby photoshoot officially began. First, let's talk about preparing this outfit. The long pink hair was carefully styled and paired with fluffy animal ears on both sides, perfectly matching the character's energetic spirit. The top's craftsmanship is quite intricate, featuring a white base with pink and red gradient trim, a blue-and-white bow on the chest, and double-layered bows at the waist; these decorations require meticulous care to look smooth and three-dimensional. The loose bell sleeves are the visual centerpiece of the outfit, adorned with heart patterns and wavy scalloped lace. Because the sleeves are so wide, posing posed quite a few challenges—they could easily snag or obscure the face. Fortunately, with the photographer's patient guidance, we adjusted the arm poses to the most comfortable and natural positions. The light blue Over-the-knee socks are an eye-catching highlight of the entire look. With a slightly semi-sheer texture, wearing them not only flatters leg contours but also elongates the overall silhouette. Paired with orange-and-white sneakers, the color palette feels refreshingly lively, which is why I adore this styling combination. On the day of the shoot, the studio used a pure white backdrop. This high-key photography style is tricky for light-colored outfits, as lighting can easily overexpose and wash out costume details. We carefully adjusted lighting contrast to ensure the red accent lines and heart patterns on the pink-and-white skirt remained crisp. Sitting on the cool white floor was a distinctive posing choice—an overhead high-angle shot creates strong visual impact while making the character look petite and adorable. Leaning back slightly while propping myself up with my hands created a relaxed vibe that perfectly accentuated my leg lines. Portraying this character is surprisingly challenging because Digi-tan possesses a unique personality—a blend of natural airheadedness and earnest, bursting energy—so capturing that cute, dorky joy was essential. I tested slight mouth openings and gaze focus points multiple times. Holding up the bag of snacks also highlighted her iconic character trait; looking at the bag full of treats naturally lifted my mood. The shoot utilized diverse visual language, with the photographer switching focal lengths to capture Digi-tan's signature goofy yet positive charm. While the pure white background eliminated environmental details, it brought all focus onto the costume and facial expressions. Every heart pattern felt textured, and the red, white, blue, and yellow colors looked youthful against the white background. The snack prop helped tremendously, enriching the composition and adding a slice-of-life, relatable touch. For makeup, I intensified the blush placement to make the cheeks look fuller, pairing it with blue contacts for a nice warm-cool contrast that looked spirited. Holding that seated pose while controlling tension in hands and waist to avoid wrinkles or wardrobe slips was tiring, but reviewing the playback on screen showed a wonderfully pure and vibrant result. For post-processing, I shared my input to keep the bright, luminous quality without overly heavy color grading, gently vignetting the backdrop edges to emphasize the subject. Overall, this shoot deepened my connection with Digi-tan. It wasn't just about wearing a costume and posing, but thinking about conveying her personality and charm through body language and expression. I hope these photos showcase an energetic, snack-loving Digi-tan for everyone.
