I finally sorted through the snapshots taken during the May Day holiday at the Chengdu Worldline Animation and Comic Exhibition. Finding a relatively quiet corridor just outside the venue that day, we took full advantage of the excellent natural light to rapidly wrap up all three coordinates.
The first setup was Madoka Kaname's magical girl attire. The pastel pink wig was trimmed with layered texture, featuring straight blunt bangs flanked by white silk bows, with pink eyeshadow brushed across the eyes. The standout highlight of this coordinate was undoubtedly the pair of pink-to-white gradient wings on my back; to keep them upright without distorting the garment's silhouette, an ultralight internal back harness was integrated, requiring careful balance checks while walking outdoors. The budding flower staff in hand was sculpted from lightweight clay and PVC piping, finished with iridescent pearlescent paint that caught a soft shimmer under direct sunlight. The white dress features multi-tiered ruffled frills, with the pink waist bow securely pinned to prevent shifting during takes. Paired with white gloves and White stockings over the knee, the all-white palette radiated crisp, clean brilliance under open-air light.
The second outfit was Cheshire Cosplay. To channel that fluffy yet subtly dark maid aura, the wig was dyed in a blue-grey gradient. The headpiece featured an oversized navy bow reinforced with internal shaping wire to prevent drooping during movement. The lace detailing on this dress is remarkably dense—from the black ribbon at the collar and the capelet borders down to the multi-layered ruffled cuffs, the fabrication felt exceptionally solid. The bust combined white lace with black crisscross lacing, while the navy waist apron was detailed with gold piping and metallic chains for deep visual dimension. For the camera, I intensified contour shading in the makeup to complement the blue-green contact lenses, giving the gaze a sharper focal bite.
The third styling was Unicorn Cosplay: sleek orange-brown locks topped with sunglasses and sunflower hairpins. The design of this outfit is quite distinct, featuring detachable light-blue oversized ruffled sleeves with lacing ties that required smoothing fold by fold before every take. A white pleated miniskirt paired with yellow and blue waist belts kept the color scheme delightfully vibrant. Because this coordinate allowed effortless mobility, we leaned into kinetic poses—raising arms and hopping on one foot—paired with white sneakers to charge the shots with dynamic energy. The plush pink mascot charm dangling at my waist was another endearing touch.
Additionally, we managed to squeeze in a quick bonus set featuring a silver-white modified qipao coordinate—twin odango buns paired with white lace hair accessories, wielding a long jian sword trailing silk ribbons. The dress featured monochrome floral motifs with side waist cutouts for a form-fitting cut; since it wasn't listed in the post's description, I will let the completed photos speak for themselves without guessing.
The shoot maintained a brisk pace throughout. Foot traffic outside the convention center was heavy, so photographer @喵蛋 continuously worked from low angles and against the sun to keep backgrounds uncluttered. Under natural daylight, balancing wig highlights and preserving fabric textures truly tested technical shooting expertise, but thankfully the final specular roll-offs and translucency turned out pristine. Huge thanks to the photographer and logistics assistant for wrangling heavy props; convention snapshot runs are undeniably grueling, but documenting these diverse character aesthetics with their full prop loadouts made every bit of effort worthwhile.
