Drenched in the rain for an entire day on Day 2 of REDLAND2026, swinging this red-and-white greatsword in the combat suit of Phoenix cosplay from Zenless Zone Zero was an absolute thrill.

The booth set naturally carried the stark, futuristic grit of a cyberpunk metropolis, and with continuous artificial rainfall throughout the day, the ambiance was dialed to the max. To harmonize with the cascading rain trails, we kept timing shutter bursts to capture the exact instant the sword blade cleaved through the curtain of water. Photographer Masaka tracked the entire session using a SONY A7M5 paired with a 24-70mm F2.8 GM II lens. Rainy conditions pose serious challenges for both camera gear and the photographer, yet the lightning-fast autofocus of the GM II lens spared us immense hassle during dynamic action tracking.

The garment and prop craftsmanship was exceptionally solid. The white combat uniform features black and gold accent panels; the shoulder armor pieces and waist strapping required layered micro-adjustments to achieve an immaculate silhouette. On the lower half, I paired lace-patterned semi-sheer white Stockings with chunky platform high-heeled boots; maintaining stability in these boots on slippery wet ground demanded rigorous core engagement. To channel the character's cool detachment and lethal combat instincts, I explored expansive, high-energy poses: high single-leg balance stances, spinning around with a piercing gaze, and raising the blade two-handed into a striking stance. While manageable in everyday wear, executing these while managing the wig and this intricately shaped heart-motif greatsword meant controlling my center of gravity with absolute precision at every shutter freeze.

The weapon stood as the crowning highlight of this shoot. Its color scheme is striking—interweaving crimson, white, and silver, with the crossguard featuring an expansive openwork heart silhouette. While crafted from lightweight composite materials, its physical volume is substantial; whether hoisting it single-handedly or leveling it with both hands, wrist tension had to be dialed in with utmost accuracy. In the downpour, raindrops clung to the blade, creating stunning specular highlights. Paired with overhead spotlights and reflections rippling across puddles on the ground, every raw capture carried exceptional depth.

Enduring an intensive shoot under continuous rain for hours was physically taxing—hair and fabric soaked through and dried repeatedly—yet seeing that raw combat tension burst across the finished frames made every second worthwhile. This level of immersive shooting is rare; placing the character's battlefield sharpness directly into an authentic rainy night environment made for an extraordinarily exhilarating creative journey.
