"If the gods are helpless, I shall end the maiden's destiny with my own hands." This quote constantly echoed in my mind throughout this photoshoot. Today, I finally finished retouching these Convention photos of Hiyuki from Wuthering Waves, and I'm excited to share the behind-the-scenes details with everyone.

What drew me most to cosplaying Hiyuki was her stern, uncompromising resolve. To recreate that presence faithfully, I poured immense effort into both the garments and props. This red-and-white Japanese style look features multiple intricate layers, with the corset cincher and metallic hardware carrying considerable weight. To capture authentic kinetic tension when drawing and hoisting the katana, I practiced balance and muscle engagement before the mirror at home for days—otherwise, holding such a hefty blade would make it impossible to stand steadily. The scabbard details are exceedingly complex: the red, white, and blue accents along with the braided crimson cords were hand-tied piece by piece. Though heavy, it gave me immense confidence while executing poses. Especially the moment when the sword is raised aloft, engaging the core is vital to keep arm muscular definition looking sharp and poised.

Lighting at the convention floor was chaotic and the hall bustling. Huge thanks to my photographer; we scouted a quiet corner away from the crowds and set up two high-output LED fill lights. The cool-toned illumination hitting the pristine white kimono fabrics and scarlet skirt pleats conjured a chilling, combat-ready atmosphere. I adore the high-slit tailoring of this ensemble, which organically reveals leg contours during strides and blade-drawing stances. To complete the aesthetic, I wrapped white bandages around my legs to evoke subtle combat weathering, pushing the nuance to the max. Chunky black platform footwear added considerable height and commanding presence; though walking grew tiring, it was thoroughly worth it for the visual payoff.

The wig was custom-trimmed as well: keeping long, straight white locks sleek without frizz requires care, and the head ornament demanded rock-solid anchoring. Eye cosmetics slightly deepened shadows along the outer corners to give the gaze a sharper, piercing edge. When capturing the side-profile sword-draw, I repeatedly adjusted my wrist angle to ensure the grip looked natural and grounded. The photographer continuously guided the focal point of my gaze, infusing the frame with deeper narrative weight.

Whether shooting on location or capturing Convention photos, preserving prop integrity is essential. The long blade easily knocks against things in transit, so I stayed vigilant the entire time. This photo set serves as a heartfelt homage to Hiyuki, and I hope it conveys her unwavering conviction to all of you.
