Today I want to share some behind-the-scenes details from shooting Moe Kazekura from Blue Archive. This classic blue sporty style track jacket features a white collar and white cuffs that give off a distinct school aesthetic, complete with accurate drawstring details. To capture the character's signature look, I prepared a light-blonde twintails wig with straight bangs, which immediately locked in the overall atmosphere.
For makeup, to align with the 2D anime cosplay aesthetic, I wore amber circle lenses, accentuated the eyelashes and eyeliner, and applied generous amounts of pink blush beneath the eyes to project an innocent, adorable presence in front of the lens. I also paired the look with oversized round black-framed glasses to inject a dose of endearing, bookish charm. In the first few shots, I experimented with various expressions—such as making 'C' gestures with both hands beside my cheeks or winking while flashing a peace sign—all aimed at showcasing her quirky, mischievous personality.
The shooting took place indoors against a minimal background of curtains and wooden flooring. The lighting blended a softbox with natural ambient light to give my skin a clear, translucent glow. To enhance the gap-moe factor, I intentionally slipped into a pair of gray shark-mouth slides paired with shorts, which not only elongated the leg lines but made the whole styling feel grounded, relatable, and lively. For the fourth full-body photo, I used a smartphone to obscure my face, which, combined with the golden halo prop added in post above my head, created a dynamic full-body composition that ended up being one of my absolute favorites from this set.
The entire shoot actually involved meticulous planning. For instance, the high-angle overhead shot required leaning forward and carefully angling the body to avoid looking awkward while maintaining a natural, effortless expression. The wig tended to get disheveled during shooting, requiring constant adjustments to the twintails' placement. From garment prep to coordinating props, every cosplay endeavor represents a brand-new creative journey. This shoot gave me a deeper connection to the character, and I hope this set of photos brings everyone a cheerful, breezy experience.
