[Kuromi Serika Cosplay] Blue Archive's Tsundere Black Cat Steps Out in a Dress

Shortly after the Guangzhou Blue Archive Only Event wrapped up, I managed to get this set of Kuromi Serika's black dress photos sorted and finalized right away. The entire process from early prep to today's official shoot was quite challenging, especially the humid October outdoor weather in Guangzhou, which was a real test for a cosplayer wearing a heavy, ruffled black dress. But seeing the final shots, the feeling of an anime girl stepping straight out of the screen gave me a huge sense of achievement.

The highlights of this look mainly focus on the layered outfit and the accessories. The black dress is made of a glossy fabric, with extensive pleats and stiff tulle support, allowing the hemline to form a beautifully voluminous curve during spins or when standing on one leg. The 3D black rose decoration at the waist and the lace choker around the neck reinforce the Gothic style and high-end feel. The iconic pink halo hair ornament on top of my head serves as the primary visual focus; to ensure no awkward angles behind the scenes, we repeatedly adjusted its center of gravity when attaching it. The choice of materials for the cat ears was also very deliberate—the black base paired with white fluff looks both lively and exquisite.

For the outdoor photography, we chose a walkway surrounded by greenery. Under natural light, the layers and luster of the skirt hem turned out very crisp. The photographer (@橘子皮) is excellent at capturing motion, so we experimented with various poses, including the exact moment the skirt flared out naturally as I lifted one leg, and a lazy perspective leaning against a metal railing. The single black rose in my hand served as an excellent visual guiding line, adding a sense of narrative to the scenes when paired with crouching or cross-legged standing poses instead of simple static standing.

In terms of expression management, to fit the "tsundere black cat" personality label inherent to the character Kuromi Serika, I slightly sharpened the focus of my gaze and kept my lips pursed, conveying a look that was a bit guarded yet secretly observant. Since her original design does have that tsundere aspect of being cold on the outside but warm on the inside, I constantly communicated with the photographer during the shoot to bring out this contrasting charm. Doing an outdoor shoot in black stockings and high heels can definitely be exhausting, but once I got used to it, I found the proper balance points to hold the poses more stably.

Since this is a convention-exclusive or event-limited variant outfit, precision in coordination and details was naturally what I chased. As I walked around the venue, many players recognized the look instantly, which proves the accuracy of the outfit met expectations. The outdoor light softened significantly in the afternoon, casting tree shadows on the ground, which, combined with a few occasionally falling leaves, lent a subtle cinematic feel to the entire set.

In post-processing, we made minor tweaks to the color tones, preserving raw skin texture while enhancing the contrast between the black dress and the background greenery to make the black tones look purer and the pink halo hair ornament pop even more. In truth, cosplay is not simply putting clothes on your body; it's about completing a collision between the 2D and 3D worlds in a specific scene through body language and the photographer's angles. The atmosphere at this Guangzhou Blue Archive Only Event was fantastic, with everyone engaging in their favorite creations and exchanges in their own corners. Being able to participate in such a gathering of like-minded fans is an incredibly meaningful experience in itself.

After finishing this set, I realized that while outdoor shoots offer great advantages in light and shadow, they are limited by the weather and surrounding environment, requiring post-processing to balance many details. Compared to studio shoots, this non-solid background adds a stronger slice-of-life feel and breathing room to the photos. I am highly satisfied with this new expression attempted for this Kuromi Serika look; although walking was a bit clumsy to preserve the 3D volume of the skirt hem, all the early prep was entirely worth it for that single breath-taking instant in front of the lens. I hope to come across more interesting projects in the future to showcase characters of various styles through my work.
