Temperature spikes in May caught us completely off guard, making outdoor shooting basically a \"trial by fire.\" Considering this season's quirks, we decided to settle on a summer pool theme for this Roleplay session. Although built inside a studio set, a lot of effort went into everything from early set design to prop selection to recreate that refreshing yet high-energy feel of Ukinami Yuzuha from Zenless Zone Zero.
The wig was chosen in a vibrant crimson, styled into a thick single-side braid. This hairstyle is crucial for highlighting the character's playful charm and heavily tested the wig stylist's craft; thankfully, the final look turned out voluminous and natural. For makeup, we maintained a translucent and clean texture, emphasizing eye contours so my gaze stood out sharp before the camera. Since the set area was super stifling and humid, makeup longevity posed a major challenge requiring frequent touch-ups on site.
Outfit-wise, the white top paired with dark gray tactical harness straps and bright accent buckles infused a hint of techwear style into the summer pool aesthetic. The short white skirt base maximized leg line exposure. For better visual appeal, I specifically paired it with white platform sandals, keeping the overall color palette crisp and refreshing.
Real water wasn't used for this set build; instead, we opted for blue floor mats simulating water ripple textures. Under multi-angle top and side lights, combined with the mat's reflective texture, the shimmering water effect turned out surprisingly realistic. Paired with a clear inflatable float, it created a convincing illusion of floating in a summer pool. Surrounded by artificial green seaweed, blue-and-white beach balls, and even a white storage box filled with purple crystals, red berries, and yellow lemons, the prop textures enriched the visual framing for this Anime-style photography.
The shooting process was actually quite arduous. Although water was simulated, continuously using sprayers to create vapor and wetness alongside intense photo lighting made the entire set area sweltering hot. Posing in this outfit on the inflatable ring produced heavy sweat within an hour. The transparent umbrella and plastic water gun props particularly required constant angle adjustments under lighting to avoid blown-out reflections or unsightly dark shadows.
To present the most natural state during Roleplay, I tried various poses—from relaxed leaning back to prop interactions like pointing a pink water gun at the lens with playful charm, or holding a transparent umbrella as if shading from the sun. While these moves looked effortless, they actually required core strength control to stay balanced on the inflatable tube while maintaining a relaxed expression.
Fortunately, the final shots turned out super satisfying, with crisp blue-and-white tones fitting the early summer vibe perfectly. Though the shoot was exhausting with sweat dampening my hair several times, seeing the coolness and character vitality radiating from the photos made all the effort worth it. This is the Ukinami Yuzuha Cosplay summer limited look I wanted to share for Zenless Zone Zero, and I hope everyone catches a breath of cool air from these photos!
