[Hoshimi Miyabi Cosplay] Tactical Sword-Drawing Moment in New Eridu from Zenless Zone Zero

Ready to draw the blade!

The theme for this shoot was capturing the split second of gathering energy before striking. To recreate that crisp, clean combat stance from the official design, we specifically chose an outdoor corridor with depth, utilizing natural light and dark-toned backgrounds to highlight the subject. Under backlighting, the light perfectly traced the edges of the beast ears and hair texture; this light-and-shadow interplay between bright and dark suited a cool, distant character like Hoshimi Miyabi exceptionally well.

Regarding props, a lot of effort went into this illuminated sword. It wasn't just the core of the outfit's visual balance; it also needed to project that energy-infused visual tension in the frame. Holding it required keeping my arm taut because the weight distribution between the hilt and internal light assemblies was uneven. To stabilize the stance during the shoot, I adjusted my arm's pressure points multiple times to convey the aura of impending combat without appearing stiff. The dark green tactical trousers with yellow accents, combined with the white blouse and black-and-white armor plates up top, formed a practical Tactical style outfit. The identity patch on the chest and the red beaded wristlet added subtle details to enrich the character, which the photographer specifically preserved to highlight their material textures.

Speaking of the attire, although this outfit looks crisp and valiant, it severely restricted movement in practice. The hard armor pieces on the shoulders and arms were heavy; maintaining an elevated arm position to swing or hold the sword consumed far more stamina than expected. However, seeing the cyan-blue fluorescence glowing off the blade in the final shot—along with edge highlights on hair strands and gear under backlighting—made all the effort completely worthwhile. The photographer was skilled at capturing moments combining motion and stillness; to maximize the narrow natural lighting window, we tried multiple angles. Beyond straight-on eye-level angles, we had to constantly evaluate whether blade reflections were too harsh or if beast ear edges would overexpose under backlighting, making real-time adjustments before each shutter click.

In post-processing, we avoided stacking overly exaggerated filters, striving instead to preserve the authentic texture of outdoor light and shadows. The blurred dark tree trunks and architectural structures in the background elevated the presence of the main subject, giving the image an immediate street combat vibe straight out of New Eridu. Though it is a single frozen frame, I wanted to convey through this photo the character's focused, serene, and steadfast emotion before battle. Beneath the tactical exterior lies meticulous attention to detail and exploration of the character's core. In every shoot, I aim to present richer content in 2D imagery through a synthesis of styling, props, and lighting. From outfit preparation to location shooting, huge thanks to my photography partner for their patient guidance and on-site control, which ultimately yielded this beautifully composed, light-tension photo.
