[Columbina Cosplay] Springtime Dreamy Sea of Tulips at Dalian Yinggeshi Botanical Garden

The reason for choosing Dalian Yinggeshi Botanical Garden as the outdoor location for this set is simple: the sea of tulips here is in full bloom. In the afternoon when the sunlight completely unrolled its curtain, the light blue and white sheer chiffon texture of the costume, along with the white wing decorations on my head, all presented an incredibly pristine and translucent state under the natural light.

We actually put a lot of thought into preparing the costume, makeup, and props this time. The main body of the outfit is a patchwork of light blue and white, similar to the lightweight sheer fabric common in summer, giving it an excellent drape where the skirt hem naturally spreads out when walking or when a gentle breeze blows. The silver-white crescent-shaped pendants on the side of the waist and the star-shaped buckles near the neckline serve as excellent accents, breaking the monotony of a solid-color outfit. The wig features a black main tone with a highly noticeable magenta gradient dip-dye at the ends, paired with straight bangs, which serves as a detailed restoration of the character's image. The white wing structure of the headpiece is relatively large, requiring some effort to secure, but fortunately, it looked quite three-dimensional in camera.

The outdoor light on the day of the shoot was very intense, which heavily tests the texture of a makeup look. When we officially started shooting, my eyes were squinted half-shut several times by the piercing sunlight, so the closed-eye portions in the photos are partly due to the lighting conditions and partly intended to convey a serene and relaxed mood through this demeanor. There are many movements in the set where my hands cross over my chest, one hand gently rests on my forehead, or one hand reaches out into the flowers; these weren't deliberately forced into exaggerated poses but naturally transitioned from a daily state, ensuring the final cuts of this Outdoor portrait wouldn't feel stiff.

After actually entering the flower field, the height of the tulips was higher than imagined, reaching roughly to the knees or just below the waist. When squatting or sitting down among the blossoms, the two wide sleeves and the headpiece on my head easily brushed against the flower stems. To capture clean frames, we deliberately avoided the dense crowds on the main path and found a relatively quiet corner. This allowed us not only to bring the azure sky into the background but also to use the intertwining pink blossoms and deep green pines and cypresses in the distance as layers for spatial depth.

There was also an amusing little interlude during the shoot. The gentle breeze of this season in Dalian always carries the scent of tulip pollen and soil, and the wig and sheer skirt hem kept drifting with the wind. While I was initially a bit worried that heavy wind would compromise the stability of the styling, when reviewing the cuts later, the way this lightweight fabric naturally extended in the wind was indeed far more vivid than if we had deliberately smoothed it out. In fact, in a few snapshots, the wind-blown hair strands became the very source of dynamic energy in the photos.

The photographer @可乐泡枸杞啊 managed the pacing incredibly comfortably throughout the process, rarely forcing me to maintain stiff poses under the blazing sun for too long and timing the snapshots perfectly, which allowed me to find my most relaxed state within the sea of tulips. Overall, this assignment didn't utilize complex lighting equipment, relying entirely on outdoor natural light on a clear day, which beautifully highlighted the translucent color palette of the costume while preserving the rich ambiance of the natural flowers. It was a highly successful location shoot, and the resulting feeling perfectly aligns with the crisp spring atmosphere we anticipated for this piece of Anime-style photography.
