Shooting Yangyang Xuanling cosplay from Wuthering Waves came with remarkably rich costume details. The wig featured a black-to-blue gradient with silver-white tips, while the feather hair accessories and red tasseled hairpin on top required meticulous fastening. The outfit is centered around a black bandeau base layered beneath semi-sheer, light blue wide sleeves; the silver metallic vambraces on the arms, combined with blue feathers and red-and-blue gemstone accents around the waist, established a striking color contrast.
Setting up the scene required considerable care. To cultivate a tranquil Eastern fantasy ambiance, a massive circular light box was hung in the background to simulate a full moon, framed by blue floral branches. Wooden lanterns were placed on both sides to forge an alternating rhythm of warm and cool light across the environment. The floor was laid with a white plush rug overlaid with calligraphic ink-washed cloth, with scattered scrolls, candles, and delicate teacups serving as foreground accents.
For this shoot, I finally brought out my long-dormant Fujifilm GFX medium format camera, and medium format dynamic range is truly exceptional. In an environment like this, transitions between warm and cool tones were remarkably organic; the cool blue ambient backlight paired with the amber lantern glow fell across the skin with exquisite texture and layered chromatic depth. While posing, I leveraged the white folding fan to partially veil my face, which added an aura of mystique while keeping hand gestures graceful in this Anime-style photography.
When seated, the visual focus of the lower body naturally converged on the legs. I paired semi-sheer White stockings with black heeled ankle boots; the contrast between the white stockings and black boots introduced a crisp, decisive edge to the airy elegance of the Traditional Chinese style cosplay. For half-body close-ups, leaning the torso forward slightly while resting the folding fan gently against the chin or lips and meeting the lens directly produced tight, impactful compositions accentuating the chest cutouts, facial expressions, and leg silhouettes.
During color grading in post-production, I pulled down ambient exposure while preserving the cool-white highlights, giving the blue hues an ethereal translucency. Skin tones avoided excessive smoothing to retain authentic texture. The layered dimension of this styling is wonderfully intricate—from hair strand gradients and cloud-pattern embroideries to foreground prop placement, every element was carefully calibrated before the lens. Completely preserving such an Eastern-infused aesthetic was a deeply satisfying shooting experience.
