[Helektra Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail — Iridescent Jellyfish and Pearlescent Silver Skirt

The moment my hair was styled, the silver-white and purple-black dress donned, and the red gloves with neck ornament secured, the authentic atmosphere of Helektra from Honkai: Star Rail truly came to life. The core objective of this photoshoot was to capture the character's unique blend of mysterious, dreamy, and ethereal traits. During set design, we incorporated numerous translucent jellyfish props against flowing light-colored backdrop drapes.

Executing this outfit presented many intricate challenges. The pearlescent white mini-skirt cast a subtle pearl-and-seashell shimmer under studio lighting. Controlling light angles was exceptionally demanding—slight misalignments caused overexposure or dull black reflections, heavily testing the photographer's precision. For the upper semi-transparent navy and black sheer fabric, we tested several textiles to achieve the exact light, draped fluidity shown in design concept art. Paired with a dark red choker on the chest and bold long red gloves on the arms, it yielded striking color contrast that immediately anchored visual focus.

Styling the wig and headpieces required the most dedication. Straight black hair with full bangs transitions into a dramatic purple-pink gradient toward the ends, which required meticulous hand-dyeing to ensure a seamless color blend. Atop the head, the right-tilted white horn ornament and purple cross hairclip—though compact—acted as essential signature flourishes that immediately signal character identity. Taming and setting the strands before shooting prevented stray flyaways while maintaining an airy feel under camera lights.

Leg styling formed another vital element of this look. I opted for semi-sheer thigh-high stockings featuring vintage vine patterns, paired with black thigh straps and black short boots. The seated pose and skirt placement served to elongate leg lines beautifully. To match the dreamy ambiance, I lifted my right hand while gently cradling a small white spherical prop. Transparent hanging jellyfish decorations and a giant luminous orb radiated a cool, hazy glow under blue-purple ambient lights, scattering soft highlights over the skirt and hair to recreate the impression of being submerged deep underwater or within an alien realm.

Cosplay extends beyond wearing garments; it is a deep interpretation and re-creation of character essence. Every step—from early prop crafting, costume sourcing, and wig customization to live lighting calibration—demanded thorough refinement. The interplay of light and shadow captured in the final shots stands as the ultimate reward for our effort. As a cosplayer, conveying a beloved character in my absolute best state brings an incredible sense of fulfillment. I hope these visuals communicate the passion and craftsmanship embedded within every detail of this project.
