[Yao Guang cosplay] The Wise of the Astral Express, Entering the Game to Outsmart Fate

This guest Cosplay photography shoot features Yao Guang from Honkai: Star Rail. After deciding on the character, the core focus was how to use the lens to recreate her blue and white outfit woven with Chinese-style elements.

Regarding the costume, the white base top paired with silver metal ornaments presents a crisp texture. The high-slit blue dress demands precise tailoring, needing both structure to support the silver texture patterns and flowiness during shooting. The dark blue of the plush shawl brings a visual center of gravity, requiring careful placement so as not to obscure lower outfit details. This set of styling has rich color layers, and the hair, makeup, and costume team spent considerable effort tuning things in early preparations.

For makeup and hair, the focus was on a translucent base and pale blue-purple eyeshadow. The selected contact lenses matched the character's pupil color, working with the silver wig and top hair accessories to project a cool and aloof feel. The metal armlets and white wrist guards on the hands served as great accents throughout the overall look, making close-up shots clearly layered.

The scene selected a studio with a classical Chinese style, featuring white drapes inscribed with black calligraphy and wooden furniture in the background. The quiet scholarly aura fits Yao Guang's strategist persona, while the wooden couch and Go board enriched visual elements, echoing with cool and warm lighting tones.

Different angles were experimented with during shooting; sitting poses showcased skirt hem lines and silver shoe details, while looking back highlighted hair tail dynamics. The composition of Photo 1 was quite satisfying, capturing the full upper and lower garment structure, material textures, and plush shawl for a thorough visual presentation.

Side backlighting was used in the studio to outline the shawl and hair strands, while soft facial lighting displayed makeup colors clearly. The emotional tone of this shoot referenced character settings, leaning towards rationality and composure without exaggerated facial expressions.

This shooting process gave me a more concrete experience of "entering the game." Putting on the costume to enter character mode and conveying that situational atmosphere through coordination with the photographer is precisely the charm of this kind of Roleplay activity. From adjusting props to on-site communication, although the process was tedious, seeing the final photos made all effort worthwhile.
