This shoot featured Kuromi Serika's Swimsuit cosplay from Blue Archive, themed around a beach vacation vibe. The outfit consists of a cropped black off-the-shoulder top adorned with ruffled trims and white piped edges, paired with matching black swim shorts. To highlight key character traits, I wore a deep navy wig with blunt bangs and twin tails, fixed with white-lined cat ears atop my head, while tying long light blue ribbons around the base of both tails. For makeup, red contact lenses were paired with flushed blush to evoke sun-kissed summer heat, finished with red-lacquered toenails and a red cord tied around the wrist.
The session took place in an indoor studio featuring an artificial sand floor. The prop crew arranged a red-and-white striped wooden lounge chair, a palm tree-printed surfboard, a large yellow duck inflatable float, and a translucent pink swim ring. To enrich the scene's color palette, a blue plaid picnic mat was styled with scattered blue plastic squirt guns, green grapes, watermelon slices, snack bags, and beverage bottles. The backdrop walls were decorated with fishing nets, anchors, and life preservers, coming together to forge a seaside resort atmosphere.
During shooting, the lighting simulated direct midday summer sunlight. Combined with the thick synthetic wig and cat ears, it felt quite warm, requiring a portable fan on standby between takes. Regarding poses, I utilized the lounge chair for elongated full-body postures—such as crossing legs on the chair or reclining sideways on the plaid mat resting my cheek on one hand. While holding the blue water gun, I aimed for a mischievous, playful smirk primed for a prank; glancing over my shoulder or lightly touching my cheek also added interactive allure to the frames. Given the abundant background props, careful attention was paid to prevent visual clutter and overlap, keeping the overall composition crisp and balanced.
The biggest challenge lay in recreating an authentic outdoor mood indoors, where the texture of the sand and lighting reflections required constant fine-tuning. The twin-tail wig tended to tangle during dynamic movement, requiring me to smooth down the strands and check the cat ears' balance every time I shifted stance. When holding the squirt gun, awkward hand placements easily blocked my face, so I adjusted my grip multiple times to find angles that showcased the prop without obscuring expressions. Stepping across the sand also required controlled foot pressure so my feet wouldn't sink too deeply and break clean leg lines.
I am thrilled with the final results, and this cosplay shoot was genuinely enjoyable. Combining squirt guns, watermelon, and beach elements gave the entire series vibrant summertime energy. When shooting summer-themed characters, packing heat-relief items in advance and opting for breathable fabrics are essential to maintaining peak condition throughout extended sessions.
