[Ajitani Hifumi cosplay] Everyday Maid Life in Blue Archive, On-Site Operation at the Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo

This shoot in the D3 area of the Firefly ACG Expo in Guangzhou primarily selected this black-and-white maid outfit styling to cosplay Ajitani Hifumi from Blue Archive. In keeping with the little inside joke mentioned in my previous post, I brought along an omurice prop specially made with the word "LOVE" on it. Since a maid outfit was chosen, the overall ambient feel of the outdoor location was very important. During the shoot, we specially looked for a wall with vertical wooden slats outside the convention hall as the main background. The pure wood-colored background can effectively tone down the high contrast brought by the large areas of black and white in the costume, keeping the frame from looking too cluttered.

Let's talk about the styling details first. The yellow halo accessory on the head is an iconic feature of the entire character. To keep it stable and not look out of place during the shoot, multiple layers of buckle reinforcements were made inside the headpiece. The hair consists of light blonde short hair along with the signature side locks. To match the black and white bow tie hairpins on top of the head, the trim was left with enough airiness to prevent the hair volume from looking too heavy. In terms of makeup, to fit Hifumi's slightly dorky yet energetic feel, the base makeup was applied quite clearly, with the focus placed on the bright accents of the eye makeup and the golden-amber colored contacts, making the gaze more captivating during facial close-ups.

For the tailoring of the costume, the color contrast between the blue bow tie and the black ruffled fluffy skirt forms the visual center of this maid outfit. The blue trim decoration at the bottom of the skirt hem, combined with the layers of white pleated borders, spreads out naturally when walking or sitting down, creating beautiful lines. The pure white tights and black Mary Jane thick-heeled shoes on the lower body not only elongate the overall leg lines but also create brilliant reflections under the outdoor natural light, adding a bit of a casual yet playful visual feel.

For the prop creation, I actually prepared the omurice myself in advance. For a great look on camera, the word "LOVE" was specially squeezed out with ketchup on the surface, along with a red heart. Interacting with the lens while holding it in hand is very important. During the shoot, I tried two states: reaching out with one hand to present the plate, and placing the plate beside me after sitting down. Especially for the set of angles where the plate was pushed directly toward the lens, the photographer Ericlurn made excellent use of the wooden wall's deep blurring, locking the focus of the frame on the expression of the omurice and my facial expression, allowing viewers to immediately feel the presence of the prop.

The weather on the day of the shoot actually provided ample sunshine, making the outdoor light rather harsh. Therefore, during the shoot, the photographer chose some front-lighting and side-front-lighting angles, which perfectly preserved the glossiness of the white stockings without losing the texture details of the black skirt hem. The entire collaboration process was very smooth, and Ericlurn captured many different poses of mine. For example, the movement of lifting one leg was actually to showcase the dynamic flow of the skirt hem draping naturally, while the final pose of sitting on the ground aimed to convey a more relaxed state closer to everyday life. The overall shooting style didn't deliberately pursue strong visual tension but instead leaned toward capturing the character's everyday feel within the convention environment, avoiding the loss of the costume's actual color texture due to heavy filters.

I could really feel everyone's passion at the convention venue. As a cosplayer, being able to cosplay my favorite Blue Archive character at an exhibition like Guangzhou's Firefly ACG Expo is highly motivating in itself. Although this entire maid outfit look has quite a few components, it was fairly lightweight to walk around and shoot in, making it convenient to switch locations and backgrounds, maximizing the efficiency of producing photos. The few photo sets produced this time at the wooden fence and roadside check-in points all leveraged the various natural lights and crowd atmospheres inherent to the convention venue, giving this set of photos an inherent look of an anime character breaking the fourth wall and stepping into reality.
