The visual design of Kiryuu Kikyou in Blue Archive is highly recognizable—black straight bangs paired with black cat ears, a glossy blue satin cape, and a classic sailor uniform, leaving a strong first impression. I decided to try an Outdoor cosplay photoshoot for this character; since I hadn't delved deeply into her lore before, it felt like a slightly challenging creative experience.

In terms of costume details, the bright blue bow tie stands out vividly on the white Sailor suit cosplay collar, and the black choker strap around the neck adds the character's unique sense of mystery. The glossy jacket adorned with white stars and geometric patterns is distinctive, reflecting light differently under varying angles of natural illumination, greatly enhancing the visual layering of the photo set. The deep blue pleated skirt paired on the bottom also displays a crisp silhouette throughout various movements.

For the location, we selected an outdoor courtyard featuring wooden architectural structures and bamboo groves. Traditional natural backdrops like wooden corridor railings and stone bridges, when blended with anime-style outfits, often produce a distinctive photographic aesthetic in Anime-style photography. In this shoot, a long blue cord served as the primary interactive prop, weaving between the thread spool and the subject. Particularly in the cuts where I sat barefoot on the edge of the stone bridge, the tension and lines of the cord enriched the overall composition. Meanwhile, in the seated pose curling up on the wooden slatted bench, the blue cord coiled around my ankles and calves, which, along with the nearby spool and scattered floral sprigs, added a quiet, storytelling visual atmosphere.

Controlling posture and movement was also a central focus of this shoot. For instance, in the composition leaning against the bamboo grove, holding a thick bamboo stalk with both hands while glancing back over my shoulder gave the upper body a poised yet tense elegance. The vertical lines of the bamboo also echoed the cat ears and facial silhouette contours. In the seated pose on the stone bridge with extended legs, capturing the character's languor required precise adjustments to the angle of leg stretch and foot arch. The cape draped naturally across these poses, lending a flowing, airy ambiance to the entire shoot.

Since I don't portray this character often, I communicated extensively with the photographer beforehand regarding expressions and subtle gestures. I worked hard to capture her mysterious gaze and relaxed poses leaning against wooden structures. The entire shoot progressed under natural lighting; dappled outdoor light and shadows gave the photos an exceptionally transparent texture, yielding pleasant colors without needing heavy post-processing.

The collaborating model Kongkong showed fantastic expressive power in her facial expressions, quickly grasping the intended emotional tone during candid snapshots, making the entire photoshoot go very smoothly. The blue cord prop was fully utilized on set, producing a cohesive result as anticipated. As an Outdoor cosplay chronicle for an unfamiliar character, this set experimented with diverse compositional angles. The vertical lines of the bamboo grove, the horizontal stretch of the stone bridge, and the static presentation on the wooden bench provided both a comfortable ambiance and memorable details, making it a thoroughly enjoyable shooting experience.
