The core concept of this photoshoot was contrast. The intricate pink-and-white dress, blue-purple short hair, and red eyes, paired with the crimson velvet sofa and the vintage room with a black-and-gold backdrop, make this contrast exceptionally photogenic. The costume has abundant details; the layered lace and skirt hem took a long time to adjust for optimal presentation. The wig used a natural blue-purple hue paired with red colored contact lenses, making the eyes look crystal clear under the lights. The golden candelabra and black walls in the scene provided great backdrop contrast. The prop skull and white pillow were the finishing touches for this set, lending a gothic dark allure to the originally sweet Lolita style.
During shooting, based on compositional needs, I tried resting my chin in my hand, lifting the skull, and crossing my legs. Through these relaxed postures, the lace trims of the dress and the coordination of the footwear and socks were better showcased, making the character's demeanor more dynamic. This set corresponds to the atmosphere of the 2D Vision Project and the Scarlet Devil Mansion, featuring distinct high-contrast lighting designed to highlight the theme through vintage and gorgeous sets. The key to capturing the character lay in expressing an aura that is both innocent and subtly dangerous and mysterious. Combined with the 'Good Night, Young Mistress' theme, the overall atmosphere was captured just right. In terms of makeup, the fit of the red eyes and contact lenses, the rosy blush on the cheeks, and the red lip finish were all carefully considered, creating an imposing presence mixed with childish innocence under the pink mob cap. Wearing red Mary Jane shoes and white lace socks also added great texture.
When shooting this style, the most crucial aspect is blending the character's temperament with the scene: a dark background serves as the foundation, allowing the character's pink palette to stand out visually, while a clean, crisp silhouette is essential for character fidelity. Much thought was put into this set from location scouting to retouching, and I hope everyone can feel the character's charm under this distinct style. When preparing this look, multiple layers of petticoats were worn underneath to achieve the perfect skirt volume. Seated poses and movements required strict posture control, and any slight movement required resetting the garment, making pre-shutter prep relatively long. When shooting on the red velvet sofa, lighting had to be meticulous to match the dark background: the face needed to be bright and translucent, while the thighs and skirt hem required a soft sheen to balance the luxury of the black background and gold frames. While a red-and-black palette might seem stark in daily settings, in such a vintage interior, it exudes classical theatricality. Furthermore, to avoid monotony, prop interactions were curated; for example, the skull prop paired with red eyes and pale complexion strongly amplified that seemingly cute yet uncanny aura, which is the most special aspect of this photo set.
