Taking this outfit of Sparkle from Honkai: Star Rail to the studio for some cosplay convention photos this time, the experience was quite a hassle with all the small details, but the final result is definitely worthy of the effort. The red-and-white color-blocked maid outfit design, paired with the gold bells at the collar, the gold chains at the waist, and that striking small translucent blue bead, along with Sparkle's signature red twin-tails and white headband, instantly brought back that quirky and eccentric temperament from the character design as soon as I put it on. The Japanese-style Wa-style patterns on the skirt hem are also highly aesthetic. Paired with black shoes and white stockings, the overall color contrast is incredibly strong, and standing on the reflective tiled floor during the shoot gave the reflection a great sense of spatial depth.

When shooting in the studio, it happened to be when the afternoon light filtered in through the glass windows. The photographer was excellent at catching angles, and although some light stands and reflectors could be seen in the background, the light quality in the final photos turned out very translucent. This time, I tried to recreate Sparkle's signature playful and slightly wicked expressions, focusing on those red-purple pupils and the two small beauty marks under her eyes—a lot of effort was put into the makeup and styling for this. Standing up and putting my hands on my hips or raising my hand in a peace sign really brought out the character's confident and playful state.

To display more dimensions of this outfit, we also shot some sitting poses. For example, sitting on the floor with my legs kept together and stretched forward, matching black leather shoes with white stockings, made the shoe buckles and leg lines look extremely clean under the light. There was also a three-quarter side sitting pose, looking back slightly, which allowed for a full view of the hair ribbon's flow and the skirt's layering. Although there were professional photography light stands on set, the coordination with the indoor natural light kept the overall atmosphere from feeling overly processed, closely resembling the natural state of on-site convention photos.

The cut around the shoulders and collarbone is also a part of this costume that I found stunning. Paired with the large sleeve design, it preserves the soft look of traditional anime-style maid outfits while adding Sparkle's unique flair. Regarding props, the massive red bow and that small bell are actually quite heavy; they would jingle and chime with every step, so I had to constantly make sure they wouldn't block my movements during the shoot. But that is exactly the fun of cosplay—wearing all these details on your body makes the sense of immersion much stronger.

The wig is a major highlight for Sparkle. The deep-red to black gradient twin-tails, along with the straight bangs, require both smoothness and shape. The wig I wore took some time to style and set to ensure the twin-tails on both sides fell naturally instead of flaring out stiffly. During makeup, I also intentionally emphasized the eye makeup, pairing the red-purple contact lenses with the beauty marks under the eyes, trying my best to recreate Sparkle's unpredictable 'Elation/troll' temperament in her expression. Looking back at the photos, these small details indeed served as the perfect finishing touches.

Since the photos were shot using a mix of ambient light and flashes, post-processing mainly involved slightly adjusting the color tones without over-editing, striving to preserve the costume fabric textures and makeup details on my face as much as possible. After shooting several sequences of actions, although it was indeed exhausting, finding those comfortable poses on the reflective mirror-like floor and seeing Sparkle's image stand before the camera through my portrayal gave me an immense sense of accomplishment. I am extremely happy to leave behind such a bouncing, energetic record today, capturing both liveliness and frozen playfulness—this is indeed a little touch of anime-style magic!
