This Seiga Kaku cosplay photoshoot, from the initial topic selection to final completion, was conceptually centered around two core themes: Eastern Xianxia and mysterious talismans. In the preparation of props and costumes, emphasis was placed on the blend of lake blue and white. The wig styling was intentionally made fluffy and slightly curled to enhance an anime-style lightness, paired with pearl chains and flower hair accessories to color-coordinate with the three-piece dress.
This photo set features many costume details, such as the glazed bead strings on the chest, silver embroidery on the collar, and several layers of irregular lace and satin patchworks on the skirt hem, creating natural draping folds when walking or sitting. When shooting the close-up of holding the talismans, I intentionally turned sideways slightly to let the blue-green atmospheric light from the window hit my back, while using the warm yellow lantern light as the main source to illuminate my face. This contrasting warm-and-cool light structure highlights the cool-white texture of the skin, making the red borders of the talismans stand out more sharply against the white background.
The high-angle overhead shots of lying on the calligraphy paper backdrop highly test prop placement and a relaxed posture. Naturally extending my limbs and sticking the talismans onto my arms and calves respectively, while letting others scatter criss-crossed beside me, was intended to prevent the frame from looking too empty, while bringing out a sense of frozen time wrapped in being surrounded, sealed, or casting spells by talismans. The few shots holding the pipe, although lacking any smoking actions, retained the grip on the prop to break up the monotony of purely pasting talismans.
For the location choice, the cutouts of the Chinese wooden screen and the bamboo rib textures of the oil-paper umbrella add a touch of rugged texture to the frame, forming a visual contrast with the soft, flowing fabrics. Small objects like teapots and wine cups were placed right at the edges of the frame as the foreground during composition, filling the empty corners to make the overall composition more balanced. Postures were adjusted multiple times during the shooting process; for instance, when sitting cross-legged or bending one leg on the daybed, special attention had to be paid to the flow of the tulle skirt, trying best to avoid rigid fold stacking to present a sense of breathing in post-production.
Chinese-style theme shooting actually places special emphasis on the integration of environment and atmosphere. This set from the Dimensional New Year Special Train, cooperating with the main blue-green color tone and the black ink calligraphy covering the ground, serves as a rather stylized attempt. Judging from the final photos, Seiga Kaku's detached, otherworldly feeling from Touhou Project has achieved a relatively complete visual presentation through this specific styling design, light and shadow construction, and prop interaction.
