[Patchouli cosplay] Classical Witch Holding a Grimoire from Touhou Project

For Patchouli cosplay from Touhou Project, I chose a pink classical dress in Lolita fashion combined with a direct flash photography style against a black background this time. Purple long curly hair paired with bright blue contact lenses created an overall look and makeup that strived to faithfully restore the calm and focused demeanor of the character.

This purple long curly wig underwent plenty of pretreatment before wearing, including trimming the bang curvature and adjusting the sideburns on both sides. Paired with a pink ruffled bonnet, plus white lace along the hat brim and a blue-and-red bow, balancing the layering and colors truly took quite a bit of effort. The costume mainly adopts a pink-over-black combination; the inner black mesh lace top carries a subtle see-through feel, while the checkered texture on the chest and red button bow deliver spot-on vintage details. The outer pink wide sleeves with white lace cuffs elevate the overall grandeur, while the pink ruffled skirt hem with white star and moon pattern lining provides a lightweight layered flow when walking in this White thigh-highs outfit set.

To convey her librarian trait of being inseparable from books, I prepared two options for prop selection. The first prop was a thick brown-covered book, specially adorned with purple and white artificial flowers to complement the overall pinkish-purple palette. While holding the book, I adjusted my arm angles to present a natural and relaxed holding posture, keeping my spine slightly erect and my gaze steady to portray a scholar's composed air. The second prop was a small plush doll dressed in a color-matching skirt with a cute style; when holding it, my expression softened with a gentle smile, displaying a cozy warmth under different states.

As for the lighting and shooting techniques, I specifically chose a pure black backdrop paired with direct front flash. This lighting style demands an extremely clean makeup base, especially in highlight areas, but its advantage lies in maximizing the texture of black lace, the vividness of pink garments, and the luster of the wig under direct light. Combined with the bright blue contact lenses I wore, my gaze appeared deeper against the dark background. Since direct flash can easily amplify pose stiffness, before every shutter click in this Anime-style photography session, I consciously relaxed my shoulders and facial muscles, conveying the character's personality through the props in hand.

Although this outfit features numerous decorative elements—from pink bonnet pleats and large chest bows to shoulder bow accents and cuff lace—requiring frequent tidying during filming to maintain look integrity, standing for long periods became tiring due to the weight of headpieces and wig, and holding the heavy book left my arms sore. However, every time the flash fired, I used the brief moment of light and shadow to deeply immerse in the character's silence and focus. Against a pure black background, this clean composition eliminated environmental distractions, allowing the viewer's focus to center entirely on character portrayal, producing a result that perfectly matched my initial vision.

Using a black backdrop with direct flash to interpret Patchouli Knowledge from Touhou Project was both a deep restoration of the character's aura and an exploration of shooting techniques. I hope the pure and focused atmosphere of this final set communicates everyone's imagination of this classical witch.
