[Youmu Konpaku cosplay] The Touhou Project Swordsman from a Passerby perspective

Cosplaying Youmu Konpaku cosplay at the Anime convention venue, holding her signature samurai swords, Hakurouken and Roukanken. Because the props were genuinely heavy, standing while holding the swords required actively stabilizing my lower body. The fact that this photo from a Passerby perspective captured this posture shows how solid the photographer's quick snapshot skills were. A Passerby perspective brings a surprising sense of realism, adding a fresh, organic vitality compared to deliberately posed shots.

For the costume, I intentionally chose the classic blue-and-white color scheme; the half-moon pattern on the vest and the layers of the skirt are well-crafted. Paired with silver-grey short hair and red eyes, the makeup was adjusted many times to achieve this cool, detached yet sharp effect. To coordinate with the outfit, white lace-trimmed ankle socks and black Mary Jane shoes were worn under the skirt, complemented by small black bows, making the leg lines revealed under the skirt look well-proportioned. The surroundings were crowded and noisy during shooting, but the advantage of a Passerby perspective is capturing the most natural state without the stiffness of posed shots. While this outfit isn't aimed purely at sexiness, the overall proportions and standing posture create quite an aura; especially when raising the long tachi sword, the body lines are elongated, creating a dynamic aesthetic.

Speaking of the two swords, Hakurouken and Roukanken are core elements of the character and feel very substantial in hand. While navigating through the Anime convention, I held the swords higher to avoid bumping into passersby; unexpectedly, this movement turned into a great pose. The custom fabric features deep blue and beige tones, and the pattern on the skirt hem shows rich layering under the lights, resulting in a cohesive visual presentation. For makeup, I emphasized red eye makeup paired with light-colored contacts, hoping to get closer to the character's feel. Using this color coordination to accentuate character traits proves more effective than simply chasing intricate designs.

The Anime convention was indeed quite noisy with uneven lighting. The photographer searched for an angle for a long time before settling on a spot that captures the full body. Fortunately, a reflector nearby provided fill light, bringing out the texture of the fabric without looking overly dark. I met many fellow fans at the convention who appreciated this Touhou Project styling and shared advice on character fidelity. Holding the swords upright for over half an hour left my arms and shoulders sore, but seeing this finished shot taken from a passerby's viewpoint made all the previous effort worthwhile. This attire certainly drew a lot of attention on-site—the skirt's silhouette and the arrangement of props on my back added plenty of visual highlights. Holding a full-body standing pose truly tests center-of-gravity balance, and combined with the leather shoes, the soles of my feet grew sore after prolonged standing, relieved only by slightly shifting my weight.

Sharing this Anime convention experience is also a tribute to the character. Throughout the event, although tiring, immersing myself in the character and experiencing something different brought many rewarding moments. An Anime convention is not just about showcasing costumes, but about connecting with a character's spirit. Next time I wear this cosplay, I will probably pay more attention to lightweight materials to make the gear easier to wear and move in, perhaps making the movements even more dashing.
