This Peach Blossom themed photoshoot of Wuthering Waves Jinhsi took nearly a month from initial preparation to final execution. To begin with the costume details, the core piece is an off-the-shoulder modified traditional Chinese-style dress featuring a seamless gradient blend of pink, blue, and white. The gold-and-red palette across the chest paired with the waist corset design creates exceptional layering. The trailing ribbons at the back and the voluminous wide sleeves required constant attention during shooting, as the slightest carelessness would cause them to bunch up. For the wig, I selected a white style with subtle pink highlights, complemented by a golden forehead accessory and delicate pink floral headpieces. The floral necklace was custom-crafted based directly on the original character art. The overall color combination is extremely flattering on the skin tone, and the satin fabric has a subtle sheen that gently catches and reflects bright light. To preserve the outfit's structured silhouette, several inner layers were worn underneath—certainly a challenge in warm weather, but entirely worth it for the final visual fidelity.
The set was primarily styled with pink cherry blossoms. To harmonize with the Peach Blossom concept, we built a massive artificial tree adorned with cascading pink and white floral branches. A circular moon lamp was placed in the background to evoke a nocturnal or early-morning ambiance. Props included a bamboo raft and a wooden swing, while water reflections and dry ice fog covered the ground to introduce a hazy, ethereal mystique, accented by antique wooden side tables and birdcages for compositional richness. Regarding lighting, the main light source utilized warm-yellow tones to complement the floral pinks, contrasted with subtle cool rim lighting on the silhouette. This ensured the separation of hair and garments; without a cool outline, pure white hair under warm illumination easily melts into the background.
The shoot itself was quite physically demanding. The swing's center of gravity made it tricky to stabilize, swaying with the slightest shift in weight. To capture the floating motion of the skirt and hair, I had to balance carefully on the swing while leaning slightly backward. Standing barefoot on the bamboo raft was somewhat rough underfoot, but I persevered to achieve that weightless aesthetic. Being barefoot made feet details a focal point in the frame, requiring me to deliberately point my toes to extend the leg lines. Hand gestures drew inspiration from the character's original posture—fingertips gently hovering or lightly raised—aiming for effortless grace. The photographer captured numerous candid frames, especially as breezes swept through, animating the streamers and hair together with dynamic vitality. To seize the single best movement, we repeated this swing sequence for over half an hour.
In one of the photos seated on the swing, looking into the lens, I was quietly contemplating the poetic line: "Spring returns as years drift by—who is here to share it, while peach blossoms blaze and trailing ribbons sway." The character naturally possesses a gentle yet detached aura, so I deliberately reined in my expression, avoiding a wide grin and holding a distant gaze, while simultaneously radiating springtime warmth beneath the pink blossoms and warm lighting. Makeup was tailored accordingly: eye makeup featured a soft red wash, and the lips were tinted in a vibrant crimson. To maintain strong facial dimensions under harsh lighting, contouring was defined deeply alongside luminous highlights.
The whole session was an ongoing cycle of adjusting garments, styling hair, and seeking ideal angles. I particularly love the composition of that swing photo; the linear bamboo raft crisscrossing with the cherry blossom boughs in the background creates immense depth, while the moon lamp behind illuminates the subject's silhouette just right. Being barefoot on the bamboo raft brings a touch of natural, unscripted freedom that ornate footwear could never convey. For cosplay, accurate costumes are only half the battle; the true essence lies in conveying the character's authentic emotional state within their world. This Peach Blossom journey provided fresh insights into lighting and color orchestration, inspiring me to explore more diverse visual styles in the future. In post-production, I retained the natural texture of the raw captures, harmonizing the color grades to make the pinks and blues translucent while cleansing away visual clutter.
