[Hiyuki cosplay] Wuthering Waves Battle Maiden: Frozen Moments in a Blade-Bearing Red Dress

Tackling this Wuthering Waves Hiyuki look, most of the pre-shoot preparation was actually spent fine-tuning the costume. The white top's fabric has a wonderful drape, but the back zipper, the collar's black lining, and the red tassels wrinkle quite easily, requiring smoothing out before striking every single pose. The waist design is the crown jewel of the entire outfit, featuring black leather belts, silver buckles, and complex mechanical textures; it cinched rather tightly once put on, but to capture the character's authentic disposition, this bit of discomfort was entirely manageable.

The silver-white wig took considerable styling time before stepping into the studio; the white hair ornament atop the crown needed precise placement to stay securely mounted, and pairing it with red contact lenses gave my gaze an icier, sharper edge. The studio set was thoroughly prepared with cherry blossom branches, red paper lanterns, and ink-wash painted folding screens, creating a powerful red, black, and white color contrast. The trickiest part during this shoot was definitely that long blade. The sword itself was quite heavy, and I had to constantly monitor its reflective highlights. For instance, when standing sideways on the wooden steps, the blade had to be held at an angle that elongated my silhouette without obstructing my facial contours.

The high slit of the Red dress and the white leg straps are standout highlights of this styling, leading us to experiment with diverse camera angles. Low-angle upward shots amplified the visual drama of the billowing Red dress, whereas seated poses better showcased leg lines and the sword's resting stance. Truthfully, walking up and down wooden steps in high-heeled sandals was a bit nerve-wracking at first, but thankfully I kept my footing steady. In terms of posing choreography, raising the arm to hold the blade felt commanding; combined with a slightly tilted-up chin, it captured that chilly, aggressive edge. Conversely, when sitting down, much of that sharpness softened, cultivating a richer narrative mood with the blade resting horizontally by my side as a trusted sidearm.

Regarding the compliments about being praised as top-tier previously, I genuinely feel there is always room for growth. In doing the makeup, I made careful trade-offs on the eye makeup—aiming to replicate the red eyeshadow effect without looking sickly, focusing ultimately on expressive eye contact. The gaffer set up a purplish-red ambient light paired with warm yellow overhead lighting above the wooden platform behind, allowing the subtle jacquard patterns of the white fabric and the metallic sheen of the buckles to stand out crisply. Slipping into this Japanese style look revealed that it places high demands on body proportions: the waist is cinched extremely narrow, which, coupled with the expansive flare of the Red dress, creates dramatic, lavish movement while walking. Accessory-wise, the black wrist cord and delicate chest pendants keep the styling from feeling sparse, serving as exquisite finishing touches.

Between takes, I constantly readjusted the skirt hem so that it spread out both naturally and aesthetically, while keeping an eye on the exposed instep angle in the high-heeled sandals. When shooting convention-style photos for characters with combat attributes, holding the weapon firmly is the most fundamental requirement. Throughout this entire shoot—especially repeatedly testing movements along the edge of the wooden platform—I truly experienced the dedication required to embody this character. The final selected photos, whether capturing an upright, poised stance or a relaxed seated moment, faithfully delivered the exact state I had envisioned.
