This time, Changli's styling focuses on the layers of the costume and the creation of an atmospheric feel. The wig was chosen in a pink-to-white gradient style; to add details, a few fine braids were specially made on the side, paired with golden hair accessories, making the overall look more delicate. The costume as a whole is a black, white, and red spliced design, with eye-catching flame patterns and tassels on the skirt hem. To fit the setting, I wore black leather gloves and paired them with Black stockings on the lower body; this collision of materials presents a nice glossy texture in front of the lens. In terms of makeup, the eye makeup was mainly emphasized, wearing golden-yellow contact lenses to make the gaze look sharper. To match the background of a peaceful and prosperous era, the overall temperament had to be kept within a range of composure, laziness, and a hint of detachment.
The shooting site was arranged with a strong oriental classical vibe, featuring a wooden couch, tatami mats, red maple leaves, pink gauze curtains, and a wooden lantern in the back. These elements combined provide a very rich sense of layering for the photos. I held a blue thread-bound book as a prop in my hand, which was a huge help during the shoot; whether holding it in front of my forehead to block the light or placing it on my legs to flip through, it helped find a suitable fulcrum for hand movements.
When posing, the photographer suggested relaxing the body as much as possible. Sitting on a bed covered with a white plush blanket allowed for a natural extension of the legs. To highlight the Black stockings and leg lines, I tried different sitting postures, such as lying sideways, crossing legs, etc. When lying down, it required a slight core engagement to keep the upper body stable while lifting the legs higher, utilizing the camera's perspective effect to elongate proportions, at which point the texture of the stockings and the curve of the legs become the visual center of the frame. The contrast between the black gloves and the red ribbons is also very strong, and every time I adjusted my pose, I had to ensure the shawl on my shoulders and the fluffy pom-pom at the waist didn't slip into the wrong place.
The use of lighting is crucial in this set of pictures. The side-backlight coming through not only made the gauze curtains look translucent, but also made the red-and-black shawl and stockings on me emit a subtle gloss. There were many close-ups of holding a book during the shoot, and the landing point of the gaze needed to be designed in advance so it wouldn't look hollow. Since there are quite a few costume details, like the gold plate buttons and red tassels at the neckline, care had to be taken during photos not to let these accessories drift out of place. To better showcase this style combining Traditional Chinese style cosplay and fantasy, I made some distinctions in expression management: when not reading, the gaze leans more towards the lens with a sense of scrutiny, whereas when lowering the head to read, it appears more calm and introverted.
Throughout the shoot, although I was constantly adjusting postures and costume details, upon seeing the finished photos, I felt that this styling combining Traditional Chinese style cosplay with modern aesthetics is very recognizable. The visual impact of the three colors—black, red, and white—is very strong, paired with dark Black stockings, the overall frame has both classical charm and a modern feel. This set of photos can be considered a very pleasant cooperation; the overall composition and light-and-shadow achieved the expected ideas, and the coordination between scene props and costume styling produced great chemistry, fully bringing the envisioned image in my mind to life.
