I prepared this punk gear for a long time, and finally took my crimson electric guitar into the night for a city street shoot. The look centered on a hardcore, sweet-yet-edgy Y2K baddie aesthetic: a heavily accented leather beret studded with metal rings and rivets, paired with a black sleeveless graphic tank and fingerless sleeve covers bound by leather straps and buckles. A spiked collar and silver crucifix pendant brought sharp focus to the neckline. Down below, a pleated micro-skirt set the stage for an asymmetrical Stocking outfit—strappy cutout thigh-highs on one leg, fishnets layered under solid black knee-highs on the other, grounded by leg-lengthening platform Martin boots.
We shot across urban pedestrian overpasses and dimly lit avenues. Night portrait work hinges on precise lighting, so the photographer used a punchy direct strobe to darken the ambient backdrop, separating me cleanly from the messy cityscape while pulling crisp luster from the leather and metal hardware. Passing headlights and streetlamps blurred into vivid, colorful bokeh behind me.
The red electric guitar was the soul of the shoot. Posing with it—propped against a railing, held mid-strum, or captured in a low crouch—exuded effortless rock attitude without forced posture. The crouching angle was my favorite: forced perspective lengthened my legs while accentuating the fishnet textures under direct flash. Despite the heavy hardware and blistered feet, the raw, rebellious energy of this Punk rock style shoot made every second worthwhile.
