The theme of this shoot revolves around dreamcore and starry sky elements. To create the visual sensation of dreaming high in the clouds as seen in the photos, we invested substantial effort into building the set. The entire backdrop was constructed with white semi-sheer tulle drapes and a generous volume of fluffy faux-cotton clouds, establishing a pristine and ethereal foundation. To enrich the composition, I arranged star props of various sizes across the set, including three-dimensional five-pointed stars with holographic iridescent sheens, matte gold stars, and an orange ukulele decorated with blue star stickers. Introducing these props instantly infused the pure white space with thematic focus and compelling visual anchors.
In terms of styling, to harmonize with this dreamy, fairytale-like ambiance, I chose a white slip dress patterned with black five-pointed stars; its multi-tiered ruffled hemline and delicate black lace trims added sweetness and dimensional depth. The white lace bonnet, adorned with stars and soft pink accents, echoed the overarching starry sky theme beautifully. White plush arm warmers and matching white slouch socks—also stamped with black stars—further tied the cohesive styling together. For makeup, I carefully placed star-shaped glitter across my cheekbones and eye contours, paired with glossy lips to make my facial features pop with radiance before the camera.
During shooting, natural interaction with the props was key. I explored multiple postures to evoke different emotional tones. For example, sitting sideways on the floor with legs gently crossed, one hand lightly resting under my chin while the other stabilized a massive holographic star, flattered my leg lines while creating a balanced composition with the prop. Holding the ukulele against my chest with my chin softly resting on the body created a quiet, contemplative mood. When lying down for high-angle shots, I partially obscured portions of my face with star props to add an aura of mystery. I also tried raising both arms overhead to lift a star, which elongated the body's lines and infused the frame with dynamic tension. Regarding lighting, we made full use of soft natural-style illumination and backlighting, allowing the holographic stars to refract kaleidoscopic beams for a truly sparkling visual effect.
For the lighting setup, softboxes simulated natural ambient light from the side, softening facial contours while casting delicate shadows across the cloud props to heighten spatial depth. To highlight the tactile sheen of the holographic stars, we deliberately calibrated the angle of the light sources so beams would refract off the faceted surfaces, producing rich chromatic shifts. Though subtle, these lighting nuances vastly elevated the overall texture of the photographs. When guiding postures, I strove to remain in a deeply relaxed state. While lying on my side, I supported my weight on one elbow, rested the other hand naturally along my waist, and angled my legs slightly outward from my torso to create elongating visual lines. The ukulele served not only as a musical prop but also as a natural anchor point—cradled in my arms or resting against my legs—preventing my hands from feeling awkward or misplaced.
Beyond visual harmony, wardrobe choice must account for practical shooting comfort. Because many poses required sitting or reclining on the floor, the lightweight tulle of the skirt creased easily, prompting quick touch-ups after each pose change to keep it looking airy and full. The star motifs on the socks echoing those on the dress created an intentional symmetry that elevated the ensemble's polish. The makeup's success relied on glitter placement: rather than crowding the face, scattering specks organically across the cheekbones and outer corners of the eyes caught the flashes and side-lighting with a gentle twinkle. We maintained a clean, luminous color palette overall, limiting post-processing to subtle color balance adjustments to preserve the dreamy visual experience from the set. Ultimately, the essence of this series lies in the marriage between nuanced lighting and prop coordination. Whether sitting or reclining within the clouds, keeping limbs relaxed and letting the body melt naturally into the environment conveys dreamcore's blend of reality and illusion far better than rigid poses. Every shutter click preserved a romantic moment, turning abstract dreams into tangible art.
