Choosing to shoot this original Character headcanon look for Rei Ayanami was mainly driven by my desire to preserve her signature cool demeanor while infusing a breath of real-life authenticity through more casual makeup, hair, and an outdoor nighttime setting. The blue-and-white color palette of the dress is classic yet not overly dramatic like stage costumes, leaning toward a casual-wear or light-COS style. Under the flashlight, the lace choker at the collar, the ruffles on the blue-and-white spliced cuffs, and the crisp blue bow on the chest showcased beautiful fabric drape. The light blue short wig was carefully trimmed and styled with natural air bangs, softening the heavy anime feel to appear much closer to reality.

For makeup, I deliberately softened the boundaries of the eyeliner and eyeshadow, opting for a soft apricot-pink and peach base to balance the sense of distance brought by cool tones. This dress tends to puff up when walking, so I kept flattening the skirt and cuffs to maintain crisp lines before the lens. Having tested numerous expressions and angles during the shoot, I found this lowered gaze without direct eye contact best matched the intended mood—as if lost in thought or simply spacing out. The crisp white base of the outfit harmonized beautifully with reflections on the blue wig, creating a clear visual synergy against the night. Details like choker tightness and bow placement were continuously fine-tuned before stepping into frame. It is precisely these meticulous preparations that brought the final photos close to my vision. Even with a Character headcanon, I strive to layer a soft aesthetic filter over the character's inherent tragic core.

To guarantee quality in Night portrait Cosplay photography, I paid special attention to makeup durability since outdoor night shoots easily induce sweat. Although temperatures that evening were pleasant, frequent expression changes can cause base makeup to cake, so I touched up with powder during breaks to ensure the flash cast a clean, matte texture on white skin rather than oily shine.
